It’s that time again – I’ve got more news than I have posts in a week. A newStephen King adaptations are on the way, Batman casting news, and new SAW movies; plus new look at HBO’s His Dark Materials tv series, and Gerard Butler runnuing for his life.

His Dark Materials – Later this Year on HBO and the BBC
Phillip Pullman’s hit YA novel series is being brought to American audiences thanks to a partnership with the BBC. The eight-part adaptation (it covers the entire trilogy – The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass) stars Dafne Keen (as Lyra), Ruth Wilson (as Marisa Coulter), James McAvoy (as Lord Asriel), Clarke Peters (as the Master of Jordan College) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (as Lee Scoresby).

 

Swamp Thing – May 31st on DC Universe
The official synopsis: Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe. Based on the DC characters originally written and drawn by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.”

 

Black Mirror: Season Five – June 5th on Netflix
This season has been trimmed from 6 episodes to 3, and features Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Topher Grace, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice and Miley Cyrus in the cast.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix – June 7th in Theaters
The official synopsis: “This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic Dark Phoenix. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Angel Has Fallen – August 23 in Theaters
The official synopsis: “When there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), is wrongfully accused and taken into custody. After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President. Desperate to uncover the truth, Banning turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name, keep his family from harm and save the country from imminent danger.”

Nancy Drew – Wednesdays this Fall on The CW
The official synopsis: “Devastated by her mother’s passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college. Malificent: Mistress of Evil – October 18th in Theaters
The official synopsis: “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after Maleficent, in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”
