Come take a look at this ominous sign that soon will be spreading everywhere in Baldur’s Gate. Find out why you should beware The Dead Three.
There’s an ominous sign appearing in Baldur’s Gate, it’s one that signifies things are going from bad to worse in the city. The sign of a skull with flames around it appears in times of grim circumstance. Come and learn the lore of the Dead Three.
A symbol representing the gods of Darkness, Murder, and Bones, these mortals ascended to godhood, taking over the portfolio from a god of death who had tired of that existence. Bane, Myrkul, and Bhaal are at the source of major calamities throughout the Realms.
They may have kicked off the Time of Troubles when they stole the Tablets of Fate from Ao, the overgod, found themselves cast out of their immortality and found various ways to try and survive the cataclysmic events. Bhaal, notably, is at the center of the original Baldur’s Gate story arc. Then there’s the Sundering, when the gods backed off from their extreme direct involvement–leaving the Dead Three to abandon their immortality and become demigods to continue to meddle and shape the affairs of mortals.
The Dead Three are among the gods that remain and intervene directly. It’s an interesting update to know that Myrkul, Bane, and even Bhaal are still around, lurking in the shadows of Baldur’s Gate. No telling how they’re going to react to the events of the game–only that their ultimate master plan is tied to these events somehow. And if somehow means Mind Flayers–well I shudder to think at what else might await the city.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is only recently announced though, so stay tuned for more news as it develops. It’s nice to see the old lore swimming back into the forefront. But beware, the Dead Three are abreast in Baldur’s Gate…
