Geekery: These ‘Midsommar’ Festivities Look Fantastically Terrifying

This summer festival looks like a lot of fun – drinking, dancing, hallucinogens, endless days, strange yelling rituals, bears in cages, murder. You know, normal stuff.

The new horror tale from Ari Aster (Hereditary) revolves around Dani (Florence Pugh), her boyfriend (Jack Reynor), and their friends that go to a rural Swedish town for a summer festival. It starts innocently enough – flower crowns, ceremonial dance, special food and drink – but there’s much more going on here. Something sinister and ancient and deeply weird. Deeply weird and sinister… bingo.

The initial reviews are fairly positive, at least in headlines and RT score – I’ll be honest and mentione I haven’t read them because I’m trying to go in knowing as little as possible. Hereditary was a personal favorite of last year, and I’m looking forward to seeing Aster’s sophmore effort in theaters next week.
