Chaplains of the Space Marines just got some great new Litanies to fire off on the tabletop – behold the prayers of the Angels of Death!

The zealous followers of the Emperor are going to really appreciate the changes to the Chaplains in the new Space Marine Codex. These HQs have gotten a new lease on life thanks to their new Litanies chart. They now work in conjunction with Captain and Lieutenant re-rolls instead of stepping on each other’s toes. Plus, they just have MORE options to choose from to really make them valuable assets no matter the job they need to get done.

The Litanies

Litany of Faith

This one is a defense against mortal wounds that can come in pretty handy. It doesn’t stack with other “Feel No Pain” type saves, but hey, that 5+ is better than having no defense at all!

Catechism of Fire

This one is bound to be a popular option. You get to select one unit within 6″ the Chaplain who is using this Litany and that unit, gets to add 1 to the wound rolls of their ranged attacks!

Exhortation of Rage

If you prefer to get up close and personal, this litany allows you to generate some additional attack when you roll an unmodified 6 – now those don’t get to generate additional hits, but as we’ve seen, Space Marines are going to able to generate quite a few attacks with a 10-man unit these days…

Mantra of Strength

Would you like to add 1 more attack and strength to your Chaplains attacks? You would? How about an extra 1 damage as well? Sounds good, right? Mantra of Strength is for you!

Recitation of Focus

Much like the Catechism of Fire, this one ability boosts your ranged damage output by boosting your to-hit rolls by 1. Again, another nice addition/option for your Chaplains to toss in the mix.

Canticle of Hate

If you’re going for that all-out assault melee style, this Litany could be pretty useful. You’ll get to add 2 to your charge rolls for units that are within 6″ of the Chaplain. Furthermore, when you pile-in or consolidate, you can get an additional 3″ of movement. While this doesn’t stack with other movement boosts, if you have an ability that allows you re-roll your charges this would apply. You could have some very consistent chargers for sure!

The New Chappie

Here are the new rules so you can see exactly how the updated Primaris Chaplain works with the new rules:

Captains, Chaplains, and Lieutenants all work together now and can really buff your ranged attacks (and more). What do you think of these changes?
