It’s been a while, but the Ultrmarines’ bug-hating specialists are back on the job.

The new Ultramarines Supplemental codex is full of surprises. it has an enormous 12 units in it, to add to the default Codex Space Marines. Compare that to the 2 units the White Scars get.

All the characters you expected are in there from the Guilliman, all the way down to Sergeatn Chronus. But it’s the Tyrannic War Veterans that was the biggest surprise for me. These guys have been gone for several editions, and it’s great to see them return to the game. Sure the Tyranids aren’t exactly wrecking shop these days – but I think this squad will mostly take to the field in Narrative Play campaigns – which ARE cool and you should try one out one of these days.

Guilliman Gives His Blessing

Here’s the basics on how they got back into the 40K universe from a fluff point of view.  Long story short, Guilliman cam back and the Ultras said “we kinda.. strayed from the Codex Astartes even though we are it’s proudest adherants – but these bugs are super nasty… and they ate one of our garden worlds! These squads are all about killing these bad critters.” Then Bobby G said “cool”.  Now just add a bunch of flowery text about nobility, sacrifice, and the need for tactical flexibility inthe face of an implacable xenos threat and you have the “real story”.

Tyrannic War Veteran Rules

Rules-wise, it’s about what you would expect. Sternguard with “Preferred Enemy” against Tyranids.

~ Are you bringing any of these guys back into your army? Or can you kill your local bugs plenty good with Primaris marines?
