The mind behind Samurai Jack is back. Genndy Tartakovsky’s signature visceral storytelling with gorgeous, colorful animation is coming back to Adult Swim this fall in the form of Primal.

The story takes us backward in time – a dinosaur on the brink of extinction makes an unlikely friendship with a caveman at the dawn of evolution. We follow them as they fight for survival in a primordial world. It features dinosaurs and small prehistoric mammals, and other critters that are based in imagination as well as science. Just suspend your belief for a bit and accept that dinosaurs and primal man exist at the same time.

Creator Genndy Tartakovsky has said the look of the show was influenced by Frank Frazetta, Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian, and 1970s era fantasy illustrations with vibrant colors. The influence shows, but it still has Tartakovsky’s chunky animation style with vibrant color. Those visuals are going to be very important. The show will concentrate on the animation, music, and sound design to get the story across – there will be no dialog. It’s going to be a different, immersive experience for audiences. And definitely not for kids.
