A new Kickstarter, funded in 13 minutes, is bringing a massive expansion to the open world RPG, Forbidden Lands, from Fria Lagan.
Forbidden Lands is a dark fantasy, open world style RPG that threads the needle between that retro feel and modern design mechanics (and aesthetics) to bring you a campaign with a timeless feel–this game feels like it’s from a time period that never existed in the best ways. We quite loved the original boxed set, and now that Fria Lagan has successfully Kickstarted a massive, icy expansion for their game, in 13 minutes no less, we’re even more excited than ever to see what comes crawling out of the Forbidden Lands.

Get ready for a long, cold winter. The Bitter Reach is a huge expansion to our multiple award-winning sandbox survival retro fantasy roleplaying game Forbidden Lands. The book is written by Magnus Seter and illustrated by Alvaro Tapia, with maps by Tobias Tranell and Niklas Brandt.
In its 200+ pages, the book will expand the game world and includes new rules, monsters and encounters, as well as the complete Wake of the Winter King campaign. Beneath the ice and snow in the cursed lands north of Ravenland, an ancient power is stirring…
This Kickstarter is also for a second printing of the core Forbidden Lands game box, which is completely sold out. The second printing will include rules updates and clarifications as well as some new art, and you can opt to have it shipped to you shortly after the end of this Kickstarter. If you are new to Forbidden Lands, this Kickstarter is the perfect place to start – the game is available here at a discounted price, and you can get all previous supplements as addons.
Forbidden Lands, released last December, won four ENnie Awards this year, among them Gold ENnies for Best Production Values and Best Cartography, and Silver ENnies for Best Rules and Product of the Year, and was voted Best RPG at the UK Game Expo.
Much like the earlier set, the Bitter Reach includes an amazing map that opens up a new area. You’ll find the Bitter Reach to the north of the Ravenland out of the core set, where an icy region full of interesting hexes is just waiting to be explored.
The new expansion also looks to add to the rules for journeys out of the core set, with new mishaps, monsters, and random encounters to run into. The real journey was the friends we made along the way, apparently, as the Kickstarter Backers have unlocked swaths of stretch goals, expanding the size of the book and adding new magic disciplines and other character options.
