The National Federation of the Blind, has brought the pain and frustration of a Wild Draw 4 to the visually impaired.

Mattel announced in a press release last week they are releasing a version of UNO with braille printed on each card. The braille uses a shorthand code to indicate the color of the card and its number or function:

  • Draw Two card (Braille: b+2, g+2, r+2, y+2)
  • Reverse card (Braille: brv, grv, rrv, yrv)
  • Wild Draw 4 card (Braille: wi+4)
  • and so on…

“UNO Braille is doing more than making this beloved game more accessible. It’s also helping promote the importance and normalcy of braille by putting it in places people might not expect, and integrating it into the play of blind children,” said Mark Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind. “The fact that a blind person is now able to play a classic game of UNO straight out of the box with both blind and sighted friends or family members is a truly meaningful moment for our community.”

Somewhat surprisingly, this is the second time UNO has been on the forefront of inclusivity. Back in 2017, they releases a reprint of the game called UNO ColorADD, for those with color blindness. It uses symbols to indicate color of the card.

You go, UNO.

UNO Braille can be found at Target stores for a paltry sum of $9.99.
