Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Ossiarch Bonereapers – Core Units Unboxed

3 Minute Read
Nov 9 2019

The Mortek Guard, Kavalos Deathriders and the Necropolis Stalkers are all core units for the Ossiarch Bonereapers – and we’re looking at all three boxes!

If you’re going to play an Ossiarch Bonereaper Army, you’re going to need to run a couple of these units in some form or fashion. Two of them are battleline and one of them is just too useful to pass-up:

Mortek Guard – Backbone of the Bonereapers

The Mortek Guard box comes with 20 models and I’m really happy about that! We saw the sprues already in Feast of Bones and these are the same ones, only you get twice as many in a single box. What’s great about this is that if you’re looking to fill out Battleline options, a single box can be turned into 2 units of 10. So, if you wanted to fill your Battleline options on the cheap, you can pick-up a box of Mortek Guard and a box of the Kavalos Deathriders and you’ve just got your 3 battleline options covered.

Okay, enough about battleline – how about those models? Well, take a look at the sprue:

I’m really tempted to build the spear options just because they look cool. That’s a good reason, right? Having already assembled quite a few of these models, I’d recommend leaving the shields off before you paint them. Otherwise, you’re going to find it to be a pain in the butt to paint around them.

Charge of the Undead Brigade

The Kavalos Deathriders are another really fantastic kit. I was very impressed with these models and I’m looking forward to assembling them as well. They have a lot of variation and I’m curious to see how much you can mix-and-match the riders and mounts. I’m also tempted to build a Kavalos heavy force as they are both battleline and deadly. Ruleswise, you can even get them some bonus moves and the ability to run and charge, or fall-back and charge in the same turn. That seems beneficial!

Sprue-wise, they come in 3 different sets of sprues. All the “horses” are different and the riders seem to be slightly customizable with heads and arm position. So if you are planning on running multiple units of them, you’ll be able to tweak them to make them a little more unique.

Guardians of the Necropolis

The Necropolis Stalker box can be build as a unit of Stalkers or the Immortis Guard. Depending on what role you want them to fill in your army can cause these two units to function very differently. The Stalkers are going to be a tad faster and have the potential to be a bit of a hammer unit thanks to their battlestances. Conversely, the Immortis Guards have the potential to be an anvil unit with a 2+ save! They are also pretty mean in combat as well with a 2″ reach weapon and those larger bases. Both are tempting build options and the sprues give you lots of bits to choose from.

I don’t think there is a “correct” option here – it really depends on which army style you’re going for. Either way, these kits look great and will certainly stick out on the tabletop.

All these kits are now available at your FLGS and on shelves everywhere. The Ossiarch Bonereapers have arrived!
