2019 was a history year for plastic miniatures. But which one is taking home the title of Best Plastic Miniature of 2019? Come find out!

It’s that time – we had our nominees from the past year. Congratulations to all the awesome sculpts from the past year. Now we’re moving into the top 3. It was a hard choice but the list had to be made. So let’s do this!

2nd Runner Up – Lord Discordant – Warhammer 40,000 – Games Workshop

The Lord Discordant had to be in the top three or Goatboy was going to fight us. That said, we DO love this model and think it’s fantastic. It was a new spin on the Chaos aesthetic and it also had some really sneaky-smart design options – like the head/face of the mount. Plus, all those Rumor Engine Teasers really had us guessing as to what the heck this thing would be. It was a very cool plastic miniature from 2019!

Runner-up – Katakros, Mortarch of the Necropolis – Warhammer: Age of Sigmar – Games Workshop

While I’m personally biased, collectively here at BoLS we all agreed that Katakros is deserving of being in the top three for the year. It’s not just an amazing kit and awesome centerpiece model. This entire kit is really the first “diorama” centerpiece miniature GW has introduced. It’s really a self contained diorama which is a really cool concept that GW is exploring more. Katakros is leading the charge with this idea and the Sisters of Battle are going to follow in his trailblazing steps in 2020. Anyhow, this model is just plain cool from the basing up to the over-sized Katakros and his characterful attendants. It’s a oozing with details – it’s a great miniature from 2019!

Winner – Super Star Destroyer – Star Wars: Armada – Fantasy Flight Games

What’s two feet long, fully painted and is a “miniature” that we never thought would be possible to produce and ship AND has rules for use in an actual tabletop wargame? If you said the Super Star Destroyer, you are CORRECT! If you haven’t got to see one of these up close, I highly encourage you to do so. It’s a very impressive sculpt and the size of this thing is equally impressive. Also, it’s pre-painted! That doesn’t mean folks haven’t busted out their paints and done more work on the model but they don’t have to – that’s what’s really cool about this massive miniature. Kudos to FFG for making this one actually happen.

Thanks for all the comments on the Nominees – there were a ton more awesome plastic miniatures mentioned but there can only be 1 winner for 2019!
