Eldritch Horror is on the rise. The stars must be right, because Call of Cthulhu is turning up everywhere, including a new official launch on Roll20.

Roll20 is a popular virtual tabletop with a knack for finding innovative ways to hand DMs control over their maps, scenarios, and other information. It’s the virtual tabletop featured on many of your favorite streams (or podcasts, if like me, you listen to streamed games after the fact on your commute). Roll20 takes advantage of the virtual nature of its tabletop to keep relevant information at your fingertips, making it easier for players and GMs alike to check up on the rules, roll dice, track their characters, navigate maps, and more.

VTT’s are a handy way to keep track of information, as we’ve mentioned in the past, where we’ve learned interesting facts about what people are playing, including a recent surge in popularity for games featuring everyone’s favorite eldritch abomination characterized as indescribable (but really that’s just because Squid Face makes everyone think of Bill Nighy), but who really just wants someone to answer his call–that’s right we’re talking Call of Cthulhu, which recently shot up to 2nd place in terms of the most popular tabletop RPG on Roll20, among others.

And it’s soon to be even more popular, as Roll20 has just announced that they will be adding Call of Cthulhu, 7th Edition to the official suite of Roll20 supported books. Let’s take a look at the official launch info:

via Roll20

There are plenty of new releases to check out, including an official Roll20 character sheet as well as the Roll20 Compendium support for the Keeper Rulebook. The Rulebook includes pre-generated characters and two scenarios to play through, along with a wealth of searchable rules so players can di(v)e right in.

For those who just want to dip their toes and try out what may be a new system, Roll20 has also launched free Quick Start Rules with a introductory scenario anyone can try.

I want to shout out the new character sheet, which is not only laid out very well, but it’s also got a new feature to switch Edit Mode on and off pretty easily, so you can change something on your sheet or just look at it without really breaking the stride of your game.

And if you’ve never played Call of Cthulhu before, the folks at Roll20 have gone the extra mile to make sure there’s an inroad for everyone to find, whatever their experience level. Including, but not limited to, a number of free options for those looking to try the system on before committing to buying yet another game to try and schedule folks for.

The Quick Start Rules are a great place to start, as they come with pregens and an intro scenario, but you can also check out the Lightless Beacon, which was realsed earlier this year. And of course if you buy the core book, you’ll have two more scenarios. Either way there are plenty of places to jump right in and call Cthulhu. Presumably to ask if the refrigerator is running. Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition: Roll20 Version – $54.95

Call of Cthulhu is a game of secrets, mysteries, and horror. You will play the role of steadfast investigators who travel to strange and dangerous places, uncover foul plots, and stand against the terrors of the Cthulhu Mythos. You will encounter sanity-blasting entities, monsters, and insane cultists. Within strange and forgotten tomes of lore you discover revelations that man was not meant to know. You and your companions may very well decide the fate of the world.

The Keeper Rulebook, contains the core rules, background, guidance, spells, and monsters of the game. It is intended for use by the Keeper of Arcane Lore (the Keeper) — that player who will present the adventure to the other players.
