We have confirmation – it’s a three-way throw-down between the T’au, Genestealer Cult, and the Astra Militarum!

After much speculation and theorizing, we have finally gotten the confirmation we’ve all been waiting for regarding the next chapter in the saga that is Psychic Awakening. It’s T’au, GSC, and the Astra Militarum in a battle royale for the Chalnath Expanse.

via Warhammer Community

The Greater Good is set in the Chalnath Expanse, where loyal Imperial worlds are torn between their faith in the Emperor and two other competing creeds. On many worlds across the region, Genestealer Cults rise up, and plans generations in the making come to fruition as the servants of the Star Children seek to throw off the yoke of their Imperial oppressors.

For those who would resist the Patriarchs and their mutant followers, there is another, equally insidious lure – the Greater Good. The T’au Empire seeks to expand its influence across the Chalnath Expanse, bringing its philosophy of mutual cooperation for the benefit of all the primitive gue’la who misguidedly follow the Emperor.

The Imperium, for its part, simply wants its citizens to remain loyal – and will do anything to achieve this goal.

Threeway Battle For Your Heart & Soul (& Biomass)

As we talked about yesterday, this really is a battle of ideology. You’ve got the Imperium facing off against Xenos threats inside and out – but that’s just another Tuesday in the Grimdark. What makes this really unique is that all three sides certainly think they are in the right. That’s what makes this interesting as these three ideologies really do sound very similar on the surface.

The stage is now set for an interesting conflict. Model-wise we know we are getting a fancy new Commander Shadowsun model:

While I’d like to see some other plastic kits for the AM and GSC, I don’t think we are going to get any. If we do, however, that would be most excellent. Although I’m not entirely sure what kits they would need. Other than a few characters most the AM line is now plastic and the entire GSC model range is also plastic.

Rules-wise, we now have confirmation of the three factions and I’m VERY curious to see what GW has planned for these three armies. From a competitive-meta standpoint, the GSC haven’t cracked the top 10 armies in a long time and the AM have been slowly drifting downward in the rankings. T’au have held on (mostly) to stay around the top-middle. Of course, that probably has more to do with the prevalence of Space Marines at the moment than anything else.

Basically, two out the three armies could use some help and T’au need more than just drones, drones, and more drones. I’m sure we’re going to see some more sub-faction rules for these three armies and probably similar sets of rules that we’ve seen before: Warlord Traits, Relics, Stratagems, and Psychic Powers (hey, it’s PSYCHIC Awakening after).

One more army crossed off the “Confirmed” List

So what changes and or updates would YOU like to see for the T’au, GSC, and Astra Militarum? Let us know in the comments!
