I’m Not Sayin’ It Was Aliens…

So what exactly is a Realmshaper Engine? Well, GW’s explanation is pretty straight forward:

The Seraphon utilise these arcane ziggurats to, as the name suggests, reshape the physical environment of the Mortal Realms. They detach from the bottom of massive temple-vessels, settling on nodes of the magical Astromatrix where the energies of the Realms naturally pool. The orbs atop the Realmshapers harness this power to rapidly create dank swamps, lush vegetation and even a thriving ecosystem of insects and lizards.

Basically, these things are terraforming devices powered by Seraphon magic. They change the landscape into a reflection of their old home of Lustria – a land where dense jungles once dominated. What’s cool is that these Realmshaper Engines also draw power from the realm they land in. So that can also impact how these Realmshaper Engines work. In time, “the environment created by the engines will come to reflect their surroundings – sweltering forests in Aqshy, or choking vines and thorny branches in Shyish, for example. ” This is basically opening the door for all you hobbyists to go NUTS with conversions.

To start you off, the model itself has a two basic build options – “new and clean” or “weathered and viney”. Take a look:

“All four sides are covered with distinctive Seraphon-style glyph plates and stone carvings, so it instantly feels at home with your army.”

Rules-wise, this thing is pretty neat! For starters it costs you ZERO points to take! That’s right, they are free to run in your list. Furthermore, you can garrison your Seraphon models in the terrain – up to 20 wounds worth. And if one of those models happens to be a wizard or priest, you can use their Power Unleashed rule:

Hey – who doesn’t like free mortal wounds! Your opponents will want to stay away from terrain and you can use that to your advantage.

I have a funny feeling these kits are going to start popping up alongside all the new Seraphon lists. It’s a garrison, it’s a firebase, it’s free mortal wounds – great ready for the Realmshaper Engines to arrive.

What do you think of the new model and it’s rules?
