From ancient Frog sages to the literal God of Death, here’s my ranking of the top 5 spellcasters in Age of Sigmar.

We’ve covered the biggest and best bruisers in the game, but while we’re talking stats, we can’t leave out the mighty mages that grace the battlefields of the Realms. From ancient Frog sages to the literal God of Death, here’s my ranking of the top 5 spellcasters in Age of Sigmar. This is entirely opinion based, and only focused on special characters, so special artefacts could tip the balance for standard mages, but these folks are the best on their own merits.

#5: Morathi, High Oracle of Khaine

Starting off our list is the Queen of Ulgu herself, Morathi, mother of Malekith and chosen of Khaine. Before she shifts into her giant snake form, Morathi is a powerhouse mage, boasting 3 spells which all get +1 to cast and doubled range. Plus her signature spell (which has an effective range of 36” thanks to her buff) can put some significant damage on the enemy, and that’s only one of her multitude of tricks.

#4: Kairos Fateweaver

The next level up of our pack of power is Kairos Fateweaver, the two-headed Oracle of Tzeentch and resident fire turkey. He knows signature spells from every friendly wizard within 18”, and always makes his d6 rolls match whatever the highest is, meaning he’s always rolling a double and usually a strong one. Plus, he can cast three spells, change one dice per game into whatever he wants, benefits from Destiny Dice, and has a potentially devastating signature spell of his own.

#3: Arkhan the Black

The Mortarch of Sacrament and right hand man to Nagash himself, Arkhan is a sorcerer of incredible skill and power with a huge spellbook. At full strength, he gets +2 to cast and unbind all his spells, and his signature, Curse of Years, is still one of the most potentially damaging spells in the game, even after the nerf. What’s more, if you take him as part of an Ossiarch Bonereaper army, he automatically knows all the spells from their lore, and can cast Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield as many times as he wants, even if other wizards have already cast it.

#2: Lord Kroak

Most definitely the oldest member of the party, Lord Kroak floats into the number 2 spot with a huge array of magical might. He can cast 4 spells per turn, unbind anywhere on the board, and can channel his sorcerous might through one of his skink followers. He also has a Daemon killing spell weapon that can be cast 3 times in the same turn (with increasing difficulty) and gets +1 to all his casting and unbinding rolls. Of course, strong as he is, there is one mage stronger, and I think we all know who it is…

#1: Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead

Yup, you guessed it, Skeletor is the strongest magical monster in Age of Sigmar, and for good reason, being the God of Shyish and all. He can cast an ungodly 8 spells a turn, all at +3 to cast, knows every spell from the Lore of Mortisans, and can pick off any model within 3” of himself to just die immediately. Plus, like Arkhan, he can cast Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield an unlimited number of times, so he can just fire off missiles with abandon to deal with threats.
