Geekery: SXSW Virtual Film Festival Starts Next Week on Amazon

4 Minute Read
Apr 22 2020

Watch films from around the world and experience a little bit of the festival circuit from your couch next week.

As most know, SXSW was cancelled for the first time in the conference’s history this year due to cornavirus concerns. The organizers have been working on ways to give the artists, musicians, and filmmakers that normally gain exposure during the event ways to reach audiences online. From Janet Pierson, SXSW director of film.

“SXSW has always championed creators forging their own paths to success, often with just the right mix of passion, vision and radical experimentation to make their dreams happen. There is no one-size-fits-all, especially in these uncertain times, and we knew this opportunity would be of interest to those filmmakers who wanted to be in front of a large audience now.”

The virtual film fest will stream from April 27th through May 6th for anyone with an Amazon account – it will be in front of the Prime paywall. Along with feature films and series there will be online panels and Q&As produced by SXSW. There are 39 titles included, some highlights…
