Goatboy here with some list thoughts on the secret power of the Chaos Rhino and the Death Guard

The return of the Rhino for Chaos Space Marines seems like an interesting thing to talk about as the current Meta points to Grey Knights and weird marine builds taking over.  Having the ability to have a movable wall that can take some damage, get in the way, and deliver goodies on time might be a good thing.  I have always had a soft place in the hole where my heart should be for the Rhino so the idea they might be worth it now has me excited.  Plus it makes playing a big army full of bodies easy to deal with when deploying and initial movement.  So with that in mind – let’s get onto some list building.

I know I did a Death Guard army list last week but a buddy posted his massed Plague Marine list and it got my mental energies working.  I needed a new army to work on after finishing up those Helbrutes and Characters so naturally going to Death Guard seemed like an easy thing.  I really like how Rhinos interact with the Death Guard army as you can easily use them to suicide into ranks, get a blow up and hopefully throw some mortal wounds out to some buddies.  Plus the idea of this stinky army of death pushing forward with their movable walls seems like a cool thing.  You can easily move up, push to the center and just hold it with your gross jerks waving Flails around and throwing out some gross bullets of death.  Next time I promise to look at something else that isn’t Chaos based.  Or maybe not – I am the champion of chaos.

I call this army…

The Dutch Oven (I am Dutch so it isn’t just stink related name…)

Stinky Tactics

This is a horde of Plague Marines with stacks of guns to try and do some damage, lots of poison stuff for rerolls to wound, and very scary close combat ability with all the Plague Flails.  I went with a few Blight Launchers because I had some and I think some guys jump out in the back to throw down some 2 damage weapons might be good.  Or it could suck – who knows as I can’t really play right now.  With Marines becoming less scary turn by turn you can easily use your Rhinos to cover yourself, get close, and get swinging with the Plague Flails that don’t lose damage and every roll of a 6 introduce d3 more attacks for each squad.  Hateful assault was a real nice upgrade to the Plague Marine and with a new booking coming out to update them we could see this army getting scary.  It also starts to stack out a ton of mortal wounds with 3 units casting stinky spells and stacking more mortal wound nonsense on top of it all.  The Tallyman might get prayers so we could see him changing this army up depending on the extra rules we get.  The best thing is that the army is really full of Plague Marines with only the Rhinos and random Chaos Lord not getting a Feel No Pain.  The Army is only 6 drops so there could be some tweaking to try and get it to 7 drops to make it a bit more fluffy.

Do you the old-school “Precision Rhino Driving Team” still has life in 8th Edition?
