Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition is getting some changes and Tanks were mentioned as a big one – so who’s going to benefit? Let’s chat.

When the big Warhammer 40,000 preview happened one of the big announcements were that Tanks were going to make a comeback. Treadheads around the globe got really excited as they hinted that swarms of infantry won’t be able to bog them down any more and that they could shoot in combat. While we don’t know exactly how that will pan out, we can make some guesses at which tanks will benefit the most.

Land Raiders & Variants

All the variants of this Iconic Tank – even the chaos version – should see a big buff in the next edition. These vehicles have a ton of firepower, a bunch of wounds, good armor and toughness and can even transport units. Yet, for all those benefits, we don’t really see them too often. They are expensive in points and that doesn’t help. But maybe with the new changes in 9th, the tank will make a return to the tabletop!

Leman Russ & Variants

The Main Battle Tank of the Astra Militarum, this tank was on the cusp of greatness in 8th. Okay, maybe not “greatness” but certainly on the better half of the curve. Again, it’s packing a lot of firepower, good armor/toughness, and the Guard could build some pretty mean options that allowed it to shoot a lot. There were even some pretty nasty options with particular variants that could pump out enough shots to make Daemon Primarch duck.

When 9th comes around, the changes to tanks are definately going to make the Leman Russ and all it’s variants worth a closer inspection.

This artillery piece from the Death Guard is another underrated tank that is going to be worth another look in the next edition. It already had some good defense against getting swarmed thanks to it’s Plaguespitters. So whatever changes GW has made to tanks are only going to make these even deadlier. We’re looking forward to seeing these bad boys unload on the enemy!

Razorbacks

This one’s for all you Classic Marine players out there. We’re hoping that the humble Razorback gets a resurgence. You know them, you love them, and we’re hoping for the best with the next edition. These versitle “little tanks that could” just might get some love with the changes and we’re hoping they make a come back…mostly because we have a ton we’d love to use once again, too.

Predators/Chaos Predators

…Okay, who are we kidding. The Sad Predators are probably here to stay. This is one case that we’re looking forward to being wrong in 9th…but unless these grow wings and start flying, we seriously doubt the power of the Predator.

What Tanks are you looking forward to dusting off and bringing back to the tabletop in 9th edition? We haven’t even touched Forge World…
