Geekery: Horror Season is Here – Three New Series Coming to Netflix & Amazon

Mike Flanagan brings another haunted house to life, Sarah Paulson is a battleaxe of a nurse, and new stories from Blumhouse.

Blumhouse productions has been working with Hulu for awhile their monthly horror series Into the Dark.They’re giving Prime subscribers a bit of love in October with Welcome to Blumhouse – a collection of four stories from different creators.

 

  • The Lie – When their teenaged daughter confesses to impulsively killing her best friend, two desperate parents attempt to cover up the horrific crime, leading them into a complicated web of lies and deception.
  • Black Box – After losing his wife and his memory in a car accident, a single father undergoes an agonizing experimental treatment that causes him to question who he really is. 
  • Evil Eye – A seemingly perfect romance turns into a nightmare when a mother becomes convinced her daughter’s new boyfriend has a dark connection to her own past.
  • Nocturne – Inside the halls of an elite arts academy, a timid music student begins to outshine her more accomplished and outgoing twin sister when she discovers a mysterious notebook belonging to a recently deceased classmate.

First up on Netflix is a series that expands the story of an iconic character from the folks behind American Horror Story. Nurse Mildred Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson, starts her career at a leading psychiatric hospital in the late 1940s. Beneath her polished and professional exterior is lurks darkness. Ratched coming to the streaming service on September 18th.

 

The second installment of Mike Flanagan’s haunted house series is based on Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw. The Haunting of Bly Manor stars Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Amelie Smith, and Amelia Eve. It arrives on the service on October 9th. The first series, based on Shirley Jackson’s book,  is available on Netflix now.
