Feeling Roguish? Got a knack for thievery? Then come check out a new Rogue from Level Up, the “Advanced” Rules for 5th Edition.
The folks behind the “Advanced 5th Edition” rules continue to ramp up their playtest. Last time, we got to check out new rules for the Fighter, and relevant to this week, we also got a look at combat maneuvers that add various options for exciting moves for your martial characters to play with. Everything from ranged attack maneuvers to pickpocketing is in here–which we mention because the new Level Up Rogue is all about using maneuvers, as well as other things. This is a fully backwards compatible version that’s meant to replace the core Rogue featured in the 5E SRD. You can find the previous Fighter playtest docs linked here, which you’ll need to take the Rogue for a test run.
This one looks like a lot of fun, though there are some fairly big changes to the core Rogue. Expertise has been replaced with a die that allows for a greater range of possibilities (instead of doubling proficiency, you roll 1d4, 1d6, and so on, depending on your level). Every Rogue also gets an “Exploration Knack” that tweaks the way a specific skill works for them, so Rogues are not only skilled but good at making them work in ways other characters don’t. Check it out below.

What this is
This is a playtest document. We’d love you to try out the rules presented here, and then answer the follow-up survey in a few days.
What this is not
This is NOT the final game. It’s OK if you don’t like elements of these rules; that’s the purpose of a playtest document. Be sure to participate in the follow-up survey in a few days. All data, positive or negative is useful.
What we use this for
Your survey responses help form the direction of the game as it goes through the development process.
