Games Workshop has some more Death Guard terrain on the way and now it’s been confirmed. Meet the Miasmic Malignifier!

Papa Nurgle is back with new gifts for his children and today we have an exciting bit of Death Guard goodness. We did spot this kit a while back in another preview but GW was very non-committal about it…until today!

“First up, let’s take a closer look at… brace yourself… the Miasmic Malignifier! Let’s be honest, after working out how to pronounce that (own up – you were totally mouthing [My-az-mik Muh-line-i-fire] as you read it!), you earned it. Behold its rancid magnificence!”

This is that mysterious “Plague Furnace” we called out and it looks even more gross in this higher res picture. The details are impressive for sure and it’s certainly got the pustule thing going on. It does indeed have a chimney that spews for “toxic fumes” and at the same time has “vile fluids” that are being pumped around. I’m not sure of the mechanics of how that all works. Is this some type of Nurgle Distillery?

Actually that would be kind of amazing – Nurgle Brewing Co. Or Nurgle’s Stiff Spirits. Nurgle Rot Beer – It will get you drunk! Move over Bugman, Nurgle is getting involved in the brewing game.

Drinking Competition? Oh boy…

Anyhow – it’s not just for the looks as this Terrain Kit does actually have some in game effects. The big rule reveal is that it generates a Putrescent Fog – because of course it does:

It generates Light Cover for Death Guard Infantry Units and if they already had Light Cover it generates a -1 to hit those units.  Furthermore, it’s got some negative effects on enemy units. GW doesn’t go into detail of exact what those effects are other than “nearby enemies suffer terribly in its proximity.” On the flip side, it can be targeted and destroyed so it’s going to have a profile of some type and if it is destroyed it “will likely burst in a Putrid Explosion” which means even more Nurgley goodness for all in it’s reach.

One other note I’d like to point out is that the aura ability is listed as “Death Guard Infantry” – this is different than say the Feculent Gnarlmaw which was more of generic Nurgle Marked units. That also means that this may not apply to any friendly Nurgle Daemon units. Not that it’s a bad thing, just something worth mentioning.

Terrain Competition? Oh Boy…

Either way, this new Terrain Kit will be arriving in the updated Codex: Death Guard. It’s slated for release next month. So get ready for the Death Guard! And don’t forget about those Space Marine Heroes you can snag for them as well. Seems like a good time to start making sure your Death Guard Plague Marines are ready for battle once more.

More Terrain? More Models? New Rules? See – Papa Nurgle DOES give all the gifts to his children. Maybe it’s time I swapped chaos alliances as Nurgle seems to at least get stuff to play with…(looking at you Khorne).
