Age of Sigmar: A Year in Review – 2020 Faves

3 Minute Read
Dec 30 2020

Before the year ends, let’s look back at some of the awesome things we got from GW.

2020 is (thankfully) almost in our rearview, and while it certainly hasn’t been a banner year by any stretch of the imagination, we have gotten some pretty cool new stuff for Age of Sigmar. From brand new armies and the beginning of the next chapter of lore to a brand new battlefield for warcry, the past year has been a trove of awesome things. It was hard to narrow down all that amazing to just a shortlist, but here are my three favorite things to come out of GW this year.

Lumineth Realmlords

As a big fan of OG High Elves, the Lumineth Realmlords were a definite highlight of releases this year. The army box, the new models, even weird old man face Teclis were an awesome addition to the battlefields of AoS, and their new rules provided an interesting new challenge for players. Also, having the only other army to be almost entirely spellcasters, being a Tzeentch player is a lot more exciting when facing these guys as you’re probably going to drown in Fate points. If you’re looking for an elite army of super aelves and battle cows, check these guys out.

Broken Realms

I should have probably said that I was a big fan of OG elves, not just High Elves, because the Dark Elves were definitely my favorite Fantasy army (closely followed by Skaven). The events of Broken Realms brought some of my favorite characters back to the forefront, and any time the narrative moves forward is exciting for me, as I love gaming in a living world. The events that led to Morathi’s rise, the new rules for all the updated models, and all the new subfactions and battalions were an exciting addition to the game. As always, I hope it leads to Malerion’s army and model, but even if it doesn’t I’m excited to see the story progress.

Hedonites

Alright I know they aren’t TECHNICALLY a 2020 release, but considering we saw a lot of their new stuff on Christmas I’m counting it. People (myself included) have wanted mortal Slaanesh followers for a while now, and at long last we’re getting some, and boy howdy are they cool. I’ll certainly be investing in a few for my army, and I can’t wait to see what else releases over 2021!

What was your favorite release of 2020?
