Goatboy’s Warhammer 40k: 9th’s Hard to Find Awesome Minis

5 Minute Read
Jan 4 2021

There’s a handful of awesome units for 9th Edition – that you have to be very lucky to get hold of. Grab these the moment you can find them.

Originally I was going to write about something shown this weekend – but we only got the fun new Hedonismbot for AoS.  Don’t get me wrong – I think the model looks great and the idea of going into the “sins” of AoS for Slaanesh is a good way to not just double/triple down on the creepy sexual stuff from the past and still let you dip into that as needed – it just isn’t 40k.  I mean sure I could make it into some kind of giant blob of a Daemon Prince but until we get some sweet new Chaos rules it’s all for moot.  Which brings me to the next bit of chatter – what is everyone building/painting?

What do you want to eat? I don’t know, what do you want to eat?

It has been a good while since I’ve gotten etc play a game.  It has been a bit of downtime with real-life hitting the hammer on getting any chance to throw dice and discuss the merits of little plastic dudesmen.  Heck, it’s been hard trying to get any of the models I want to mess with for future armies.  This is what I want to talk about a bit as while we are not playing nearly as much we still can’t even build as much.  Currently, I have been buying random Death Guard stuff to try and get ready for the upcoming codex release but it’s more of a desire to always buy something every week from my local fave store than in any real need for a list.  This does mean I go in, browse around, and check out what I can find.  Thus – my list of hard to find models that you might want to look for if you are out shopping around.

Scarce But Potent

Redemptor Dreadnought – Snapfit or Real kit – This guy has been out of stock for a while.  In fact, I tried to order some before Xmas and it kept getting pushed back.  It feels to me like what will most likely be a repackaging of the model but we will see.  You would think the Snapfit kit would show up more often but there isn’t much of anything out there.  You start to look online and you see the price gougers throwing them up for a good deal more.  If I were a player I would just wait to get the kit when it comes back.  There are no events and no matter how much I dream of adding a little bit of Goat flavor to a dreadnought or two I just have to… wait.

Thunder Wolf Calvary – Thankfully mine were all Juggernaut based but these guys are still out of stock on GW.  I think a lot of players are sleeping on these guys as they have the elusive Keyword – CORE – which makes them pretty amazing.  A lot of people don’t like the fact they can’t go “thru” walls – but this edition isn’t about killing as much other than holding and being a threat.  You get too close to an objective and their ability to Heroically intervene will be a big issue.  They also have a ton of “fight” last abilities as well as one of the “easiest” secondary objectives for an army.  Randomly enough I think I have 2 boxes of these somehow haha.

Primaris Inceptors – Who would have thought these guys would have become something of a bad a$$ in this new edition.  There is an army with a ton of these guys usually sporting a Red Color and loving to talk about Blood, Rage, and their hot Angel daddy.  If we had events going on I could see a lot of these getting converted from someone’s pile of Bolter version from the 8th edition starter set.

Primaris Techmarine – This guy barely showed up for what a week or so and now you can’t get him anywhere?  This is again one of those models that seems interesting in specifically built armies that we can’t build yet.  There has to be something powerful with this model and I am sure will see it show up.  Heck, I have one as we got an extra for review.  He is painted up to match my all foot “Space Marine” army that would love to have some Redemptor Dreadnoughts to play with.

Regular Dreadnought Variants – You notice how you can’t get a Librarian Dreadnought, Bjorn, Murderfang, or a Wulfen Dreadnought right now?  Do you think there is going to be some new box art to go with them soon?  It is annoying we can’t find any of these guys beyond an Ironclad Dreadnought.  Sure you could go to town converting one – but a lot of these are either pretty locked in with their looks or just could be a pain if we get GW more involved with events in the future.

Primaris Chaplain on a Bike – Hey remember that sweet Primaris Chaplain?  Hopefully, you got yours.  Thankfully it isn’t extremely hard to covert one out of all the Outriders people have and some bits.  Sure you miss some of the little details but if you can’t make some kind of cool holy mace – then what kind of Space Marine hobbyist are you?

Defiler – Remember when everyone got excited about the Defiler?  Looks like people still are especially with Death Guard coming down the pipe.  How crazy is it that this old of a kit is still sought after?  Do you think the mold is still holding up?  Do they have to go find it in the back of the Factory behind all those sealed boxes of the Man-o-War books and Aspect Warriors they have waiting on ice?  Maybe they need to complete a quest to get it from the old mold keeper?

Have you been trying to find some models that used to be in production but are now “scarce”?  How frustrating is it to try and find something to keep you busy during these trying times and having to see prices go crazy?  Are you ready to finally get some time to play some 40k again?
