Necromunda: Hired Gun is looking impressive – but what’s life like in the Underhive? Come take a tour with the new trailer.

Ever since Hired Gun popped up on the radar we’ve been excited to learn more. Today, Focus Home Interactive has a new trailer showcasing a bit more about the game and setting – plus some more tidbits hidden in the details.

There’s a lot to unpack here. First up, just know that there are some cinematics cut in with gameplay – but man, it’s hard to tell which is which sometimes. That’s a good thing! Gameplay typically has a weapon of some kind out. But then again, it’s hard to tell if there are areas of the game where you’re going to be able to just walk around and interact with the citizen of the Underhive. In any case, the world looks alive and claustrophobic at the same time.

Customized Bounty Hunter?

Starting here, the trailer cuts through a series of different bounty hunter models. Are these presets, randomized, or will there be a character builder that allows you to customize your own Bounty Hunter? I’m hoping it’s the custom option because it sure looks like there are a lot of things you can tweak.

There appears to be both a male and female options as well as numerous  other facial, armor, arms, scars, hair, and other gear modules that can be modified.

Action Packed Game Play

The gunplay looks fast and furious. Lots of parkour-style movement as well as a verticality to the game in general. We also get a look at some of the “execution” style takedowns/finishers throughout the video. Those look pretty sick! We saw some of that in previous trailers. There is another few glimpses at some of the other game play happenings, too.

In this screenshot, you can see that there are some non-combat types sitting around – perhaps they are gangers waiting to pull a gun or maybe they are just random NPCs filling up spaces. It’s alluded to in the video that you’ll be interacting with folks to get information on whatever mission you’re on. I’m very curious how these interactions will take place and how much scripted dialog there will be and if that will be voice acted or just text.

There are lots of different environments from the crazy scaffolding to traverse to massive cargo trains pulling tons of cargo to temples, factories, and even seedier sections of the Hive. And it all looks fantastic!

A Who’s Who Of Factions

Also mentioned in the video is a look at who’s going to be in the hive. Obviously gangers, but you’ll also have to worry about:

  • Guilds
  • Genestealer Cult
  • Corpse Cult
  • Enforcers
  • Inquisition

And from the looks of things, the gangers appear to (mostly) be from Escher, Goliath, and Orlock – but who know who else will show up. If there’s mention of both the Genestealer and Corpse Cults, as well as some Psykers showing up – there could even be some Chaos *stuff* happening in the Underhive, too. Lots of things to learn and explore – sounds like a blast to me!

Release Date(s)

Necromunda: Hired Gun is set for a Digital release of June 1st, while it is slated to arrive in retail store on June 30th. That’s really not that far off! It won’t be long until you’ll get to venture into the Underhive and stake your own claim…or die tryin.

What do you think of Hired Gun so far?
