It ain’t called Necromunda: Hired Plot Development. When things get up close and personal, it’s time for a sawed-off shotgun in Necromunda: Hired Gun.
The weapons of Warhammer 40K are as iconic as the character archetypes themselves. Just as iconic as the stalwart defenders of humanity that are the Space Marines and their Primaris Lieutenants, are their weapons. You could probably say more about the mechanics of a Bolt Gun and a Las Pistol than you could about how your car works (and if the opposite is true, what’s it like living a fulfilling life?), but the fact remains, weapons help capture the feel of 40K as much as gothic architecture or British people yelling military commands at you does.
Which is why the developers are showing off the weapons you’ll be wielding in the depths of Hive Primus when you take control of your cool merc. And today we’re checking out the sawed-off shotgun. Let’s dive in.
The sawed-off shotgun is the reason you want to keep your enemies closer than your friends–so that they get hit when you start unloading. If you’re wondering what other weapons have been featured in the game? We’ve also seen the Autopistol and the Bolt Gun.
First up, the Autopistol, which is exactly what you’d expect. It’s a pistol that fires automatically, and while it’s not the most damaging gun, it’s reliable and effective at close ranges. If you need to put out a large volume of firepower, the autopistol feels like an ol’ reliable fallback option, useful when you’re dealing with hordes of weaker enemies.
Then we have the Boltgun, which is one of the most recognizable things about the world of Warhammer 40K. This gun, which is more a rapid-fire miniature rocket launcher, or gyro-jet heavy machine gun, has been portrayed many times across different games, and the one thing people can all agree on is that it almost never feels or sounds right.
Of course, here it looks like there are explosions when the bolter hits land. So it seems like the team behind the game is already miles ahead of other 40K games. Naturally we’ll be seeing more guns soon enough–including the bomb rat:
But we’ll have to wait and see what else lurks in the hired gun’s arsenal of hired guns.
What weapon do you want to see?
