With the new edition around the corner we’re wondering which battletomes are going to get updated first. Here’s a few we think could use it.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks you might not know a new edition of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is officially launching this weekend. Pre-orders are live. Things are looking exciting. It’s that “new edition feeling” where everything is uncertain and things are fresh and mysterious. While AoS 3.0 builds on the foundations of the previous edition and expands things, it shouldn’t take that long for players to get acclimated to the new rules. That said, there are some big changes and some of the current Battletomes could use some help in the new edition faster than others.

So, with that in mind, here’s a few Battletomes we think are likely candidates for a new book rather quickly.

#1 Stormcast Eternals

Posterboys of the new edition and on the receiving end of a bunch of new models, it only makes sense that they would get a new book with some haste. The new Dominion Launch Box has all new models inside and they are all new units. And yes, their warscrolls are included, but you KNOW that means that their new rules and lore will be added to a new book at some point – and we think that point is pretty quick!

#2 Orruk Warclans

The Orruks are also on deck for a new book. The introduction of the Kruleboyz is a huge deal and they seem to be the focus as we enter the new edition. The Kruleboyz are a part of the Orruk Warclans based on the lore section in the BRB so they should slot right along side the Ironjawz and the Bonesplittaz. It’s a ton of new models and rules, plus Orruks players are wondering how this addition will impact the current way army construction is working – Big WAAAGH!!! questions and more need to be answered.

#3 Ossiarch Bonereapers

Players have lots of questions about the Ossiarch Bonereapers and their Relentless Discipline Points and the new edition. While many of us are hoping for a Day 1 FAQ to answer some questions about Command Abilities and RDP interactions, I’m personally also hoping for a bit of a revamp to the system with a new book. Plus, we got some interesting variations of Mortek Guard from the Warhammer Underworlds side of things with Kainan’s Reapers – a unit of Arrow shooting Mortek Guard would be very welcomed.

Halberds and Maces would also make for interesting alternate guard and what better time to release new units than alongside a new battletome book?

#4 Skaven

The Skaven Battletome is one of the older books out there. Age isn’t the only reason to get a new book however. The new reinforcement rules in Matched Play and unit sizes really messed with how players can build Skaven armies. GW might need to go back to the drawing board based on a few of these units and really check to see how their old “rank” bonuses apply with the new maxes on reinforced units.

#5 Maggotkin of Nurgle

Okay, this one is based purely on age. The Maggotkin of Nurgle book is the oldest battletome out there having received a “new” book back in 2018 at the tail end of the first edition. Alongside Legions of Nagash and the Idoneth Deepkin book, they never really got a 2nd edition update and we’re about to land in 3rd edition now. So yeah…GW might want to take a look at a few of those older battletomes and give them a refresh.

There are MANY battletomes in Age of Sigmar that could use some love. Which ones do you want to see get a refresh first?
