The red symbiote is all about destruction and revenge.

The first trailer is all about Venom and Eddie. The journalist’s relationship with his symbiote has become a bad roommate/incredibly dangerous, always hungry talking pet situation. The two are like an extremely messed up Oscar and Felix. One of them is done with the vigilante crime fighting business, the other literally wants to eat criminals.

The trailer that dropped this morning shows serial killer Cletus Kasady’s connection to Eddie and Venom – and how Carnage comes to be. It’s much more direct than how the character was created in the comics.

Don’t let a serial killer bite you, it’ll always turn out badly.

It also gives us a little more of  Naomie Harris’ Shriek as she’s exposed to the Darkforce Dimension, drawing out her sonic powers. If they’re using her introduction in Maximum Carnage as a backbone for the movie, the two will be going on a chaotic massive murder spree together.

The sequel was slated for last year, but it was pushed due to the pandemic. Sony is hedging their bets by making it a theater-only release without a streaming date like many of the movies coming out this year.

The sequel is directed by Andy Serkis. The cast is led by Tom Hardy (as Eddie and the voice of Venom), and includes Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage tears into theaters on September 24th.
