The success of the first season has led to Netflix expanding the universe with new anime series and prequels. Take a look at what’s up next!

Before we jump in to season two, here’s a bunch of stuff that’s happening in the further future. Season three has been greenlit (to no one’s surprise) and we’ll be getting to dive deeper into the universe with another anime series. There is also a live action prequel called The Witcher: Blood Origin in the works.

The live-action series is set in the far-flung past and gets into the creation of the first Witcher. The prequel isn’t based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels; it’s all-new material. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has worked on the original Witcher series and the upcoming Nightmare of the Wolf anime, is on as executive producer. It’s being run by Declan de Barra (The Originals) and Sapkowski is on as a consultant to make sure everything lines up properly.

“Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time—the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal in ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

This weekend gave us a first look at the production, starting with a table read with the cast (including the amazing Michelle Yeoh).

Back to things that are a bit closer: new looks as season two, which is just 2 months away. The show’s story is moving through Blood of Elves and into Time of Contempt this season. Expect the stories of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri to start weaving together and for them to find common enemies; and the Lion Cub of Cintra is going to discover many things about her linage and her monster-killing powers.

Geralt has a chat over knives with his old friend Nivellen (that’s Kristofer Hivju under the makeup)…

And in the next clip he protects Ciri from a looming monster…

The official synopsis…

Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

The season’s cast sees the return of Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri, Joey Batey as traveling bard Jaskier.
