Are you tired of your campaign? Here are three items that are all but guaranteed to bring it to a screeching halt.

Sometimes, in spite of our best intentions, campaigns just flop. It’s either the characters not quite clicking, or the story not quite drawing you in the way you’d hoped. And it’s fine–this is just a natural part of D&D. But, when it happens, what do you do? Do you let the campaign fade away, or, realizing that it’s on the outs, do you go out in a blaze of glory?

If like me, you choose the latter, here are five magic items that will bring about the end of any campaign.

Deck of Many Things

This is a great way to bring a campaign screeching to a halt. It’s full of cards that will wreak havoc (good or bad) on a character. You find a deck of either 13 or 22 cards, and can draw as many or as few as you want. The effects can be positive, like granting you 50,000 gp, or 10,000 xp, or a new magic weapon–OR–they can entomb you in an extradimensional Sphere in a state of suspended animation somewhere outside of reality, or remove any form of wealth that you carry or own, or you might have to fight an Avatar of Death itself.

Either way, this is one great way to change the fortunes of everyone in your campaign for better and worse. Usually worse.

Wand of Orcus

The Skull-tipped wand of Orcus exists to do two things: cause death and secretly advance the cause of Orcus. It’s a great item to throw into a campaign where you want to just throw out power everywhere–it has the ability to summon 500 hit points worth of skeletons and zombies, and anything killed by its powerful necromantic spells is turned into the service of Orcus. Who will likely show up to claim his wand at the end of your campaign.

The Hand and Eye of Vecna

The legendary hand and/or eye of Vecna are mummified remains, and they are powerful–and powerfully evil. Individually they grant you powerful abiltiies, but they also give Vecna a chance to tear your soul from your body, devour it, and then control you like a puppet, becoming a vessel of Vecna in the mortal world. Another surefire way to bring about a Campaign’s End.

Happy Adventuring!
