Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to be a trip into the dark side of the Marvel universe.

The studio has decided it’s been long enough and released the last post credit scene from No Way Home as its own trailer. Back when the Multiverse of Madness was announced at SDCC, Marvel studio head Kevin Fiege talked about what we can expect.

“Multiverse of Madness is the greatest title we’ve ever come up with, by the way. I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a horror film, but it’ll be a big MCU film with scary sequences in it.I mean, there are horrifying sequences in Raiders that I as a little kid would [cover my eyes] when their faces melted. Or Temple of Doom, of course, or Gremlins, or Poltergeist.

These are the movies that invented the PG-13 rating, by the way. They were PG and then they were like, ‘We need another [rating]… But that’s fun. It’s fun to be scared in that way, and not a horrific, torturous way, but a way that is legitimately scary, but scary in the service of an exhilarating emotion.”

The trailer bears that out. This is going to be dark and it’ll enter territory we haven’t seen before.

We’ve known since 2019 that Scarlet Witch would be a part of this story. Wanda has become a formidable power after finding her true self at the end of WandaVision. The last we saw her sher reading the Darkhold in a witch’s hut using projection. The Multiverse of Madness trailer sees Strange having to convince her to come out of her hidden home to fight. She’s going to have to confront the fear of losing control of her powers and hurting people again.

Note that her fingers are turning black like Agatha’s. That may not bode well.

America Chavez (far left) gets a bit of screen time here. Xochitl Gomez was cast as the character earlier this year. You can learn more about her in our character breakdown.

Also seen is Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer (far right). Palmer has an alter-ego in the comics, but not sure if they’re going to go with that here or if her name is the only thing that will carry over into the MCU.

The last official synopsis we got was last year. It’s changed a bit with the events in No Way Home, but it’s not far off.

“After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend turned enemy seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth, messing with Strange’s plan and also causing him to unleash an unspeakable evil.”

The movie is directed by Sam Raimi. There are a bunch of familiar faces in the cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams. Sorcerers Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor are back. New members include Xochitl Gomez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives only in theaters May 6.
