‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Episode 1 – ‘Stranger In A Strange Land’ Breakdown & Easter Eggs

Dec 30 2021

The Book of Boba Fett premiered this week with familiar faces, new aliens, and all of the Tatooine criminal underground you could want.

The series premiere of The Book Of Boba Fett kicked off this spinoff series for The Mandalorian yesterday. It wasted no time. Right out of the gate the show answered some of our most pressing questions. The first episode showed Boba in action, though maybe not at his best.

Here are some of the biggest plot setups and Easter Eggs I noticed in Episode 1, ‘Stranger In A Strange Land.’

Boba Fett’s Flash Backs

The Mandalorian re-introduced Boba Fett as the unabashed badass fans know him as. The Book Of Boba Fett wasn’t bashful about showing that some fights don’t work out in his favor, however. We got to watch all of these as Boba relived them while sleeping in a bacta tank. While he’s working to make himself look as strong as ever, he’s actually still recovering from old injuries and traumas.

Through Boba’s memories, we see his harrowing escape from the Sarlacc. Followed by some Jawas finding him half dead in the sand and stealing his armor, only to have a band of Tusken Raiders revive him then take him prisoner. The Tuskens had also taken a Rodian prisoner and kept a guard animal that looked like a massif – a mixture between a dog and an iguana known as a.

At one point Boba makes a break for it. But between the Rodian being a narc and the massif outrunning an injured Boba, it doesn’t go well.

This flashback ends with Boba Fett saving a young Tuscan Raider from a four-armed monster, killing it in the same way Leia killed Jabba the Hutt only a few days earlier in his story, earning him respect from the Tuscan Raiders. We’re hoping that the next episode will show flashbacks of his training and adventures with the Tuscans to show us how he became so skilled with the gaffi stick he’s reintroduced to the galaxy with.

Boba and Fennec Are Crime Bosses Now

Surprising nobody who watched the trailers, The Book of Boba Fett features the title character taking over Jabba the Hutt’s old position as a major crime lord of Tatooine.

A number of local criminals and businesses either pay their respects, pay him in credits, or both. Unfortunately, a Twi’lek majordomo (the same title Bib Fortuna held under Jabba’s rule), of Mos Espa‘s governor shows less respect than Boba and Fennec are expecting. We expect this will come back later in the season in one way or another.

Their walks around town allow us glimpses at some familiar faces, such as Max Rebo playing with Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes (better known as the cantina band). They are, of course, playing a rendition of that one song we all know. We also see two Twi’Leks working in Garsa FWip’s Sanctuary and bar. Interestingly, though one is male and the other female, they both have ear cones; a feature specific to female Twi’Leks.

Despite taking Jabba’s old job, Boba seems to want to set himself apart from the rest of the galactic underworld. He wants to rule with respect instead of fear. Boba offers the Gamorrean guards jobs instead of torturing them as the torture droid recommends, and prefers to walk places instead of being carried on the litter.

Fennec is worried this will make him look weak, but Boba has no such reservations. Walking out among the people leaves him open for attack, though and unknown assailants, injure Boba. This lands him back in his tank for another bacta nap.
