Age of Sigmar: Idoneth Deepkin New ‘Tides’ Rule Reveal – Ride The Tide To Victory

The Idoneth Deepkin have a new version of the Tides of Death rule. Learn to master it and you’ll be coasting to victory.
The ethersea rises and falls to a new beat in the upcoming Idoneth Deepkin Battletome. Their Tides of Death rule has been reworked to give players more tactical options. There are two tracks you can follow or even jump between. Knowing when to ride the tides is the tricky part.
“As previously hinted, the new Battletome features a change to the core army rule, so let’s submerge ourselves in this ocean of new possibilities.
The old Tides of Death ability has now been replaced by two separate tracks that represent two faces of the Idoneth: the Tides of the Sea and Tides of the Storm. “
Ride The Tides of Death
The two new tracks are called Tides of the Sea and Tides of the Storm. You can choose one of the Tidal abilities once per battle round by selecting the track you want to start with. On the following battle round you’ll be able to choose a second ability from the track you selected. Or you can swap to the other track. It’s also worth noting that jumping between the two is doable. But there is a cost.
“Importantly, swapping from one set of Tides to the other resets your progress – the Idoneth may have control over the ethersea, but they cannot halt its momentum. “
It’s really going to benefit players who have a strong grasp of the flow of battle and have a long-term plan. That said, the sea and the dice can both be fickle! So it also benefits Idoneth Deepkin players who can assess the board and jump to the other track in response. Above is the first round options for both. Below, you can see the second round options.
I really think the later round are where you really start to see these Tide rules kick in hard. It’s not that the first round options are bad, it’s just that I can really see the temptation to pick one track and ride that one until the end.
“The third step of the Sea track grants Strike-first for all friendly Idoneth, while the Storm track grants Crit (Mortal) to your melee weapons – both for the entirety of your turn. Deciding exactly when to use your abilities or switch between tracks will be key to your victory.”
I also appreciate that each set does have a theme but the rules don’t focus on a single “thing” the whole track. There’s movement tricks, defensive options, and combat boosts aplenty!
I’m looking forward to checking out the full rules for the Tides of Death in the battletome soon enough. It’s going to be interesting to see how this army shapes up on the tabletop!
Idoneth Deepkin: Not the army for people who suffer from analysis paralysis.
