Eberron: Forge of the Artificer has been delayed until December 9th, following a printer error, according to an announcement from WotC.

Nevermind about that August 19th release date for Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. Citing printer error—which in this case seems to mean a messed up cover—WotC has delayed Forge of the Artificer to early December. But in addition to delaying the physical release, WotC is also pushing back the digital release. Those who pre-ordered and have Hero-Tier or Master-Tier D&D Beyond subscriptions won’t get their digital access until late November at the earliest.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Physically And Digitally, Free Mini-Adventure Offered as a Bonus

The announcement came Friday afternoon, when WotC shared photos of the printer error in question. It seems that, despite initially appearing okay, the covers of the book began to seriously warp over time. And in the photos below, you can see just how much warping was going on.

Not just the sort of incidental little rise that comes from using a book so much the spine gets a little cracked from flipping to the same page over and over again—but it’s just fully separating itself from the pages. WotC caught this a few weeks after an initial inspection.

In a post on D&D Beyond, WotC explains the situation in more detail:

“A few weeks ago, we received the first printed copies of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. At first, everything looked great and met our production standards. But as time passed, a serious issue emerged: the covers began to warp. This was a defect that developed after production and wasn’t visible during initial inspection.

After reviewing the full scope of the problem, we made the tough decision to recall and reprint the entire physical run. No copies with this defect will be shipped to customers. This is a complete reprint, not a patch job—and we believe that’s the right call.”

As aresult of the decision to reprint, and to “preserve the integrity of the experience” while ensuring a “unified launch for everyone” WotC has pushed back the release of both digital and physical editions to December 9th. Early access times have been similarly pushed back to December 2nd, and November 25th, depending on how big of a D&D Beyond Subscriber you are.

But it’s not all delays. WotC is offering a free bonus mini-adventure set in Eberron as a way of saying thanks to those who pre-ordered the book. And, presumably, those who pre-order now. At any rate, it seems we’ll have a while to wait before seeing what else is new in Eberron in 5.5E.

December 9th is, unfortunately, closer than you’d think!
