Huge LEGO Toddler Sized Nu Gundam Lets You Go Beyond The Time To ‘Char’s Counterattack’

This massive LEGO Nu Gundam includes thousands of pieces and an impressive array of weapons.

In the world of Mecha anime, there is no greater name than Gundam. The series has given us some of the greatest mechs and mech battles in history. Its storied past needs little introduction. There are many classic rivalries in Gundam, but none as famous, or as central to what you might call the “main story” as the frenemy-ship of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. This rivalry finally came to a head in the movie Char’s Counterattack, long considered one of the most impressive looking bits of Gundam media.

In Char’s Counterattack, Amuro pilots the iconic and fan favorite RX-93 ν Gundam- The Nu Gundam. Armed with a variety of weapons systems, most famously its Fin Funnel system, the Nu Gundam is perfectly suited to Amuro. Unlike the more famous RX-78-2 (THE GUNDAM, Gundam, or Grandpa Gundam), the Nu Gundam is tailor-made for Amuro. Many fans would argue that Amuro in the Nu Gundam is the most deadly combination in the series, and he certainly saves the world with it.

Now seeing a model of the Nu Gundam isn’t all that rare. Gunpla is a thing and there are a ton of models. See a big model isn’t even all that rare, though less common. However what you won’t normally see is a truly massive Nu Gundam made of LEGO. And yet that’s just what Japanese builder seirei526 has given us.

The MOC is a towering recreation of the Nu Gundam. It even comes with a CCA accurate Amuro mini-fig and appears to be pretty much to scale with it. It was designed along with Gunpla World Champion Shun and you can see the really amazing level of detail that went into it.

While the builder hasn’t said how many pieces (at least not where I could find it, most details are in Japanese) they did mention that it cost them about 300,000 Japanese Yen to build. That’s around $2,000 USD.

The build is very modular and can be taken apart for moving and transport. It also come with some weapon options. Seirei mentioned that hardest part was getting the Funnel Fins correct. Since it’s asymmetrical balance became an issue. But man did she get them right. This is a build that really makes you want to zoom in and bask in all the crazy details.

Get Your Own LEGO Mech

Now, sadly LEGO doesn’t officially sell Gundam sets (yet – get on that, LEGO!). But they do actually have a number of pretty cool Mechs you can get if you want to start your own collection. Most of these come from the Ninjago theme and have some cool designs. These are a great way to get started building LEGO mechs and then maybe experiment on your own. The Fire Knight Mech is a pretty cool looking one, but there are others, all the better to battle with!
