Atomic Mass Games is releasing new unit card packs for all the factions. So which packs will you actually need to play the game?

In case you missed the news, there’s a ton of new Card Packs coming to Star Wars: Legion. These packs are a great way to get organized with physical copies of all the different units and cards you’ll need to play Star Wars: Legion.

Now, what you might not know is basically all of the unit cards/rules you need to play Star Wars: Legion are free to download from AMG. For example, if you were playing the Galactic Empire, you can just download the unit cards for them right here. But printing out all those cards and cutting them for physical copies is kind of a hassle. It’s doable…but it’s still a time consuming effort. That’s why these card packs will exist.

For the refreshed version of Star Wars: Legion, we wanted to make sure that players could update their armies cards with physical versions and make that easier for gameplay. As many players already know, these cards have been available online through our website for Print-and-Play, but now we are bringing these cards to store shelves.

We are bringing a few different kinds of card packs, Unit Card Packs, Command Card Packs and the Upgrade Card Pack.

Each pack has all the units that are currently released for their respective faction. They have all the up-to-date rules matching the refreshed rules and cards for their respective units. There are also new Command Card Packs as well as the General Upgrade Card Pack, too.

Again, all these command cards are free to download directly from AMG.

Now, What Cards Do You Need?

So, let’s answer the question at the top: Which card packs do you actually need? The answer is that you need the cards for your respective faction. However, you can already get all these cards for free online from the manufacturer. However, if you want to have physical copies and don’t want to spend a bunch of time printing, cutting, and probably needing to sleeve those cards you can just buy these physical card packs.

New boxes have the new cards…so if you have the new units, you don’t need these card packs.

Personally, if I’m going to spend the time and effort it takes to built and paint an army, I’m going to get the card packs. Also, many of the re-boxed units come with the updated cards already…so you might not even need to buy these card packs based on when you purchased your units. In fact, these are really designed for the folks that might have been players from the previous “edition” of Star Wars: Legion. These packs are you for. And only if you want physical copies. Seems like a winner to me.

These card packs ARE nice to have — but only if you don’t already have the new cards. Which you can download for free. I’m not seeing a downside here.
