“The latest blind buy miniature collection features Strike Force Variel from the Dark Angels Chapter,* and every box contains one of seven different warriors, each with their own equipment, specialisation and Kill Team rules card.”

First up, I just want to say I like that GW is expanding the Warhammer Heroes into other Space Marine sub-factions. We’ve had Ultramarines and Blood Angels. Now the Dark Angels are up. Secondly, I want to point out that these are essentially push-fit mono pose miniatures. You don’t technically need glue or tools to assemble these (but I’d still recommend them). One last comment is I’m also annoyed that there’s no way to ensure you get all seven miniatures in one go:

“Every display unit will have eight blind boxes, but there is no guarantee you will get all seven miniatures if you buy a full dispenser of eight boxes.”

Look, I get it. The idea is to get folks to keep buying/collecting/trading these with their friends. However, because these Space Marines are part of a Kill Team with rules, there has to be a better way to collect them. Then again, let’s be real — these are just Space Marines from the various units and if you really wanted to run them in Kill Team you can just proxy them with “close enough” miniatures from other units. Anyhow, /rant over. Let’s check out the miniatures a little closer.

The Miniatures of Strike Force Variel

“Stoic Sternguard Sergeant Ramus is joined by Infernus Marine Haroth, Assault Intercessor Maphael, Infiltrator Belath, Intercessor Zeradim and Reiver Nahrden. This elite team is led by a mysterious lieutenant of the Chapter – whose miniature must remain secret for now. “

If I’m being completely honest, these are pretty standard Primaris Space Marines. The paint jobs themselves look great and those are doing a lot of work for these miniatures. I do like them it’s just not really anything we haven’t seen before. The fact that these are push fit and also have built-in scenic basing is a nice touch!

Again, these are really for people who are looking to dabble with the hobby. It’s a pretty low barrier to entry and a good way to practice building and painting. And hey, if you do manage to get all seven of them you can then play some Kill Team.
