“In every turn, the Flesh-eater Courts fall under the sway of a specific Delusion that alters how they perceive the battle. A Kingdom Deluded lets you choose a Delusion in the first turn of the battle, but after that you are partially at the whims of the dice …”

Flesh-eater Courts Rules Preview

The main rules interaction for the army revolves around the rule A Kingdom Deluded. On the first battle round you get to chose a Delusion for your army. But in subsequent turns, you have to roll to see what happens. On a 1-2, you have to choose a different Delusion. If you roll a 3-4, you have continue the previous turns Delusion. On a 5-6, you have must pick a Delusion like you did on the first turn.

Now, it’s worth noting that the army itself has two base Delusions to follow: A Splendid Pageant and A Glorious Banquet.

A Splendid Pageant, setting run rolls to a minimum of 4, and encouraging units of five or more Infantry to obscure the aristocracy from enemy spells and ranged attacks. The next second the court is in the midst of A Glorious Banquet, their gluttonous frenzy adding 1 to hit rolls for all units that charged that turn. “

On top of these two, various units will also have Delusions to choose from on their Warscrolls. The One True King, as an example, can be found Ushoran’s warscroll.

There are more examples as well. The new character High Falconer Felgryn brings his own Delusion. As does the Grand Justice Gormayne, too.

Master The Delusions

Again, these are just a few of the Delusions you’ll find in the Battletome. You can read the effects for yourself above. Personally, I’m seeing how these will come together to form army builds to work around. There are a total of nine heroes in the new battletome that provide these Delusions. Finding synergies in these Delusions is going to be part of the fun and the challenge. That said, these aren’t the only army wide rules you’ll have to learn to juggle. Some previous abilities are making a return.

“While Delusions are the core rule of the army, other battle traits remain familiar: you’ll still heal through Royal Blood and be able to enact a glorious Feeding Frenzy, though now it is a once per battle ability that requires the Hero making the call to be in combat themselves. Once per turn your nobles can also still Muster Guard to return bodies to their Serfs and Knights, and for a command point you can still Summon Loyal Subjects to summon a half-strength unit from the battlefield edge.  “
