The Flesh-eater Courts are on deck for a new Battletome and Spearhead box. Is this Spearhead going to be worth it?

The current crop of Games Workshop Spearhead boxes are coming in at $145. GW has revealed the new Flesh-eater Courts Spearhead with all the contents. So it’s time once again to bust out the napkin and do some math to figure out what sort of a deal we’re getting with this one.

Contents:

Abhorrant Gorewarden $45

3x Crypt Horrors $60

3x Crypt Flayers $60

Royal Beastflayers unit $60

Total Individual MSRP: $225

Total Savings: $80

Provided the $145 price point stays, this Spearhead box will save you $80 which isn’t too bad! It’s also worth noting that the Abhorrant Gorewarden is currently out of stock on the GW website — at least in the US. So, unless your local store as one on the shelf, this might be one of the few ways to get ahold of one.

One other callout is that the Crypt Horrors and Flayers are the same kit. It can also be used to build a few other kits from the Flesh-eater Courts army. It’s a rather versatile kit. That said, if you’re looking to run the Spearhead as is, you’ll need to construct the recommended units for that specific setup.

Peat, Repeat, No Peat?

With the contents of this box, I’m going to say it’s a Peat at most. That means it’s a one-box purchase in my book. Why? Well, the Royal Beastflayers for one kind of a weird unit. You can’t reinforce it and it was previously a Warcry Warband. Which is fine…but I’ve always found those units to be rather niche. One copy in your army is probably fine. But fielding two was kind of “meh” with limited exceptions.

Another reason is the Abhorrant Gorewarden. Those are 0-1 as listed in the current regiment options for the army. It’s not that big of a deal and they aren’t unique but personally I don’t know if I’d want to run more than one. You do you.

While I don’t really want to recommend picking up multiple copies of this box I do think it’s still a good solo purchase on it’s own. Spearhead games of AoS are a lot of fun and they are fast. This box would get you into those games pretty quick. It’s a pretty low commitment and low barrier to entry. So if you’re looking to get into Flesh-eater Courts and particularly Spearhead games, this one is a big thumbs-up from me.

It’s a one-and-done from me. But it’s worth getting!
