Horus Heresy: Legiones Astartes Combat Force Pricing Breakdown
The Horus Heresy is getting a trio of new Combat Force boxes to help folks jump into the game. But what sort of a deal are they?
Games Workshop announced there were new Combat Force boxes coming to the Horus Heresy and I was glad to see it happen. Today, we’re going to dive a little deeper into the contents and do some math to figure out the sort of deal we can look at for these boxes. Here’s the thing: we don’t have a final price yet. That said, we can still figure out the total MSRP of the items in the box and compare that at different price ranges. So let’s get started with the Legiones Astartes!
Legiones Astartes Combat Force Pricing Breakdown
Contents
20x Legionaries in MkVI Power Armour $84
Heavy Weapons Upgrade Set – Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters $47
Leviathan Siege Dreadnought with Ranged Weapons $84
Total Individual MSRP: $267.50
Now before we get to the estimated savings, I do want to point out a few things. The Leviathan Dreadnought is the part of this box that’s not currently out of stock from GW. So I’m guessing they either pulled existing stock to repackage for this box set or they are getting a fresh shipment of these kits in soon.
Estimated Savings For The Combat Force
That said, let’s get into price ranges here. Based on the amount of stuff inside the box and the Individual MSRP, I’d say these Combat Forces are going to come closer to a Combat Patrol price point (~$170) than a AoS Spearhead (~$145). My reasoning is based on the fact that the recent Salamanders Combat Patrol box clocks in at $170 and has a total of $248.35 in Individual MSRP items inside. That’s still about $20 more in value in this Legiones Astartes box however.
So if the Legiones Astartes Combat Force box does come in at $170 you’d have a heck of a deal. You’d be looking at $97.50 in savings which is pretty impressive for GW. That’s over a 36% discount. Realistically, if this box was $187.25 then it would 30% off the individual retail. So I’m curious what the actual final price will be.
If these boxes are sub $190 for retail it will be a really good deal. If they come in at $150 or less, they are an absolute steal. At that price, it would be very reasonable to recommend snagging two or three to really launch a new Legiones Astartes army. You’d still need some command/HQ options, but those are pretty easy to get. Plus, the savings vs Individual retail will really add up for your overall costs.
On the flip side, if these come in over $200, I’d be a lot less bullish on them. It’s still a nice discount for sure. But for me that Heavy Weapon Upgrade set is kind of the tipping point. If the savings for the combat patrol isn’t covering the difference on that upgrade kit, then what’s the point? I could just get all the other items besides the upgrade kit and basically be in the same spot. That’s the strange thing about this Combat Force. 47$ of the value comes from the Heavy Bolters/Missile Launchers included. However you build these Legionaries you’re going to end up with extras.
Again, I don’t know the final price. But I think they may end up somewhere in the $180 ballpark. If that’s the case you’re going to be saving $87.50 and that basically covers the cost of the Dreadnought and some change. I don’t see GW going super low on these at less than $150. But I don’t think it would be wise to sell them for more than $200. I’m looking forward to finding out the final price when they do launch!
If these go on sale for $150 they will instantly sell out.
