Legions Imperialis: Combat Force Mechanicum Pricing Breakdown
The Mechanicum is next up for a Pricing Breakdown as they are getting a new Combat Force box for Legions Imperialis.
Yesterday, we took a look at the contents of the Legiones Astartes Combat Force box for Legions Imperialis. It’s looking like a good deal. That’s provided the price point is around $170. Well, today we’re putting the Mechanicum’s new Combat Force under the same scrutiny. So let’s bust out the math and do some comparison!
Combat Force Mechanicum Pricing Breakdown
Contents
Mechanicum Battle-Automata $52
Thanatar Siege-Automata Cohort $52
1/2 of a Legions Imperialis: Mechanicum Triaros Squadron $26
Total Individual MSRP $234
Total Estimated Saving $64*
*Again, this is at the price point of $170. Here’s the same breakdown at different prices:
- $150 = Savings of $84
- $170 = Savings of $64
- $190 = Savings of $44
I do think that this boxed set and the Legiones Astartes version will be the same prices as they have the exact same Individual MSRP value attached to them. And GW does like to make products have pricing parity (so all Combat Forces will likely be the same price point).
Peat, Repeat, or No-Peat
So, from a pure dollar savings, I think this is a good deal. You’re saving more than a box worth of miniatures with this purchase. So, if you’re interested in jumpstarting a Mechanicum Army for Legions Imperialis, I don’t think you’re going to find a better deal from GW. That said, I do want to stress the same thing I mentioned from the Astartes article: try to build some of these miniatures first.
I recommend picking up a box of something you’ll likely need multiples of. The Mechanicum Infantry box is a good example. Or even the Battle-Automata box. Something with Infantry to start. Why? Because this scale can be a little challenging to build into. This isn’t a warning to tell you to pass on this box. This is just a word of caution about the hobby commitment to Legions Imperialis.
The good news is that expanding the army is a piece of cake! Get the core rules so you’ll know how to build out the army, and then put together your list. The Mechanicum is well known for bringing in Questoris Knights or other heavy hitters, too. So filling out the ranks is simple. And again, there are loads of nice boxed sets to snag. Tanks, transports, and even Dark Mechancium miniatures if you want to go that route! Personally, I like the Siege-Automata. So I’d go with more of those. But you’re going to want to check your list-building options before you just buy everything.
At the end of the day, I think this is certainly a Peat (buy one of them) if you’re wanting to play Mechanicum. Shoot, you might want to snag two (making this a repeat), depending on the type of list you want to play. But just remember by warning first before you hard commit and go all-in on Legions Imperialis.
And get some tweezers…
