Whether you’re spending Halloween on your own or enjoy a solo-gaming experience, these horror board games will bring the creep factor.

Sometimes it’s nice to get together with a bunch of people on Halloween and play some spooky horror RPGs or board games. But sometimes the group gathering just doesn’t pan out, or the holiday comes on a weekday when people want to call it an early night. Other times, you may just want to enjoy a low-key night at home with candy and a good movie. No matter the reason, you may be on your own and looking for a horror board game that you can play solo; these board games will have you rethinking being at home alone.

Final Girl

Final Girl is a very well-themed and immersive horror game for one that explores all of the tropes that you know and love. You’ll step into the life of your favorite scream queen and do everything you can to explore, learn, fight, and survive the night. This is also a game with about a zillion expansions. So, in addition to being a fun game with a lot of replayability on its own, you can also explore all of your favorite horror movies through the harrowing adventures of their final girls.

Horrified

In Horrified, seven of the world’s most famous and terrifying monsters are attacking your town, and you must defend your home. This is a game for up to five people, but a solo mode means that you may just be the only thing standing between your hometown and destruction by the Dracula-Frankenstein-Mummy team. Gameplay is easy to learn and immersive, and players can use many different playstyles and strategies to win… Or die trying.

Spire’s End

Played solo or cooperatively with a friend, Spire’s End is a choose-your-own-adventure card game. The game’s story follows survivors of Sea Crest, a city destroyed when a mysterious spire pierced it. Player(s) will work through enemy encounters, scenarios, and brutal danger. Spire’s End feels a lot like a TTRPG, but there’s no GM and no character sheet. Just a deck of game cards and some dice.

After the Virus

After the Virus is a deck-building game of zombie apocalypse survival for between one and three players. With a team, it’s a cooperative game, but when you’re solo, you’re a lone wolf. Hold off the ever-growing horde of zombies and try to save as many defenseless survivors as possible.

Scream Park

Scream Park brings you to a spooky theme park and asks if you can piece together a haunted house with last year’s sets, costumes, and effects. Are they haunted? Who knows. But what may be more scary is the looming displeasure of your boss. Scream Park is for between one and five players. But really, this sounds like a part-time job I would have been thrown into on my own with very little explanation or training. And I think many of us have had those same experiences. Games are also only about thirty minutes, making it a nice, quick one to pick up when you’ve got a little free time.
