Goatboy’s 40K: WOW, That a Solid GW World Championship Mini Preview!
Goatboy here and it feels like it’s been a long time since we had a true GW preview show. Let’s go over all the awesome GW reveals!
While a few things have leaked early from time to time with GW showcasing better pictures later – it has felt like forever since we have seen a big batch of sweet models out of blue. Let’s dive in and see what might be coming to our hot little hands later and some of the thoughts of what will have to deal with on the competitive tabletops.
New Ultramarines – Kinda Unexpected
Let’s look at it first from a competitive point of view. The first batch of stuff came from an update to the Ultramarine line. If you thought the small Ultras update we had a couple weeks back was it – well you were wrong. I mean maybe. This looks like a batch of Black Library characters that might just live in legends play but will just have to wait and see. I say this because it is a lot of models that are not coming out with a book it would seem. You would think this type of update would warrant a Supplement, as right now the Ultramarines have more options than all the other Supplements we have seen.
New Necrons – AWESOME!
It just feels weird to see “humans” within the Ultramarine range and it has me thinking this might just be narrative stuff. Will have to wait and see because while the Ultra side of the update looks kind of odd, the Necron side is pretty spicy. We have a totally updated Nightbringer as well as the father of the Destroyer Virus. Both of these look CRAZY, and are going to bring about a most likely interesting end to the 40k 10th Edition with some brutal updated Destroyer style detachment. I mean I hope it does for those Necron players that want to have a bunch of Destroyer options.
That new character model for the Necrons – Nekrosar Ammeter – looks very brutal. He has such a bigger and meaner body than the latest Necron stuff which is pretty exciting. I also like the hints at his fluff where the Silent King removed him from the collective mind of the Necrons. I also like how he wants to bring about a C’tan star god again.
New “500 Worlds” Campaign Xenos – T’au, Tyranids & Votann!
The last bit of updates points towards a new “500 Worlds” campaign with updated xenos Characters and options. The new T’au twin suits look pretty neat. They are beefy as heck and represent a much more aggressive style in their design. I am not a T’au player but these models have me excited to paint up some “Angry” T’au for the fun of it. The new Tyranid covers a weird hole in their line with another mid sized HQ choice and then the new Votann also does the same thing with a Beserker character. This sounds just perfect to add to the Delve Assault Shift detachment.
I was hoping to see some more of this show up for the Chaos guys like Emperor’s Children or World Eaters so will have to wait and see. I bet a few more “finecast” Marine options show up at the end. I expect a pretty nice water fall of small boxes to end the year and drive people to spend a bit of the left over Xmas cash they might have.
I’m Expecting Grotmas – Again…
With that we basically leave 40k with a bunch of models that don’t really match up yet as we wait to see the upcoming Ultramarine rules for the latest batch of releases. This all points to what will most likely be a fun little Campaign and then a big pile of Grotmas-Part Two detachments to round out the year with some fun free competitive rules to help tide over the masses as we wait till whatever comes next year and if a new edition does rear its head.
Onto AOS: New Maggotkin – Superb!
On the hobby front I think the big model winners are the new Maggotkin models we had for AOS. They looked pretty amazing and with some insane paint jobs, such as Festus the Leechlord. There are so many awesome looking models I just don’t know where to start. The plague beastman models will make for excellent Plaguebearer allies in a Chaos Knight army. The new Blightkings and Rotswords might show up in some cool Plague Marine conversions in the future. The Warhammer Quest release also has some amazing Nurgle models that are screaming to be built up with some cool power packs and bolters. This whole release just seems interesting and while I don’t play AOS I do love those models.
The paint jobs are pretty amazing too. There are some really interesting styles shifting from the normal Heavy Metal options we have seen in the past. The blends look more akin to Golden Daemon showcases and are just amazing. The skin tones alone are stunning, and it is just awesome. BRAVO GW!
Overall it is a weird release as I like all the models I saw I just wish they linked to rules I would be interested in. Will have to wait and see what comes from all of this as again I keep looking for future things to drive my hobby time.
What did you like from this GW Preview? Are you exciting for the new few months of 40K & AoS?
