You’ll find a whole menagerie of monsters and rules to make your own inside the new BRP supplement, Basic Roleplaying: Creatures.

Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying line grows, with the addition of Creatures, a new title all about the weird, wonderful, and often wildly powerful creatures that span the breadth of its various d100-based games. Because Basic Roleplaying: Creatures is a manual of monsters, sure. But it’s also a stealth update for any game that runs off of Chaosium’s d100 systems. This means Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, and even Rivers of London all get a host of new creatures.

Because when Chaosium says “basic,” they mean it the way elements are basic. And you find them everywhere. So within the sprawling pages of this book, you’ll find everything from towering kaijus to robotic knights to horrors that lurk between the stars. What’s more? You’ll find rules to make them better, faster, stronger.

Basic Roleplaying: Creatures – Unleash Nightmarish Creations On Any Chaosium Game

Inside this book, you’ll get more than 200 new creatures across a wide swath of categories. You’ll find animals, megafauna, and dinosaurs. All mundane stuff, but still dangerous. Who doesn’t want to ride a pteranodon into battle?

But you’ll also find more fantastical creatures within the pages of this new book. Familiar fantasy favorites like griffons, trolls, and dragons abound. But then next to them, creatures straight out of science fiction, like robots and aliens and mechanized knights that will quest you into the ground.

All that to say, Basic Roleplaying: Creatures shows off the breadth of the system:

“Basic Roleplaying: Creatures collects animals, monsters, nonhumans, and nonplayer characters drawn from history, science fiction, fantasy, prehistory, mythology, and the modern world, allowing for any gamemaster to use them in any d100-based game.”

Though if you’re a veteran GM, you’ll probably be drawn more to the GM’s toolkit section. There, you’ll find extensive rules for modifying, customizing, and creating your creatures and NPCs. Make familiar and megafauna from existing templates. Find guidelines for harvesting creature parts or creating your own kaiju to terrorize a small town off the coast of Maine.

And because BRP is cross-compatible, you can drop these into basically any Chaosium game. Want to know how your Cthulhu by Gaslight party would handle a robot? You can find out. It’s available now on DriveThruRPG at the link below!

What fresh horrors will you unleash?
