Star Wars: Legion – New Galactic Battlefield Terrain Starter Set Pricing Breakdown
Okay, this new terrain set for Star Wars: Legion had me scratching my head. But now I think it might be an really good deal.
Atomic Mass Games announced that a new Galactic Battlefield terrain set was on the way. At first glance I thought, “oh cool. Star Wars: Legion terrain!” I happen to like having lots of terrain for building tables. But then I took a closer look at the box. “Wait, isn’t that just Star Wars: Shatterpoint terrain?!” And actually…yes. It IS Star Wars: Shatterpoint terrain. Not all of it. But we’ll get to that. But then I thought “surely, that’s the wrong scale. Won’t it look wrong?” But I just so happen to have some of that terrain built. And honestly, with Legion miniatures next to it, you really can’t tell. Which feels weird to type. But see for yourself:
I know there are some folks out that will scoff at this idea. Again, the scale thing — and I get it. However, if these kits came out for Star Wars: Legion first I don’t think anyone would have batted an eye. The only thing I’d be worried about is the speeder bike and you can just opt to not use that one piece. It’s also making me kick myself for not trying to do this sooner. Of course the more generic looking Shatterpoint terrain looks like it fits on a Star Wars: Legion tabletop. I’d probably stay away from any crashed Shatterpoint vehicles. But the buildings are just Star Wars buildings…
Anyhow, use them or not, that’s really up to you.
Let’s Talk Pricing
I did want to talk about the pricing however. I saw a lot of the comments on this announcement that were folks balking at the price. And yeah the price for this set is $159.99. But what I think a lot of folks aren’t doing is actually checking the math on this one. So let’s go over that price and what this kit is actually worth.
Contents:
2x SWQ137 Outer Rim Battles Terrain Pack = $119.98
1x SWP17 Take Cover Terrain Pack = $74.99
1x SWP60 Outer Rim Outpost Terrain Pack = $54.99
Total Individual MSRP: $249.96
Total Savings: $89.97
Also, yes you ARE getting the full sets from those individual kits. So, based on the math, you’re saving over 50% on this one. Plus, this is basically a board of terrain for Star Wars: Legion. And if you want to use this terrain for Star Wars: Shatterpoint games also you really just need this plus the core set. Those low walls do actually work despite the “scale issue.”
I have played games with worse looking terrain. If the table has “official Star Wars terrain” vs other terrain sets (looking at you Warhammer terrain which I total will use if I have to) then I’m all for that. For me personally, this also means that I can paint all my Star Wars terrain from Legion or Shatterpoint to match and it will all pretty much work. And if a piece looks too out of place (or out of scale) I can always just not use it.
The value of this boxed set is actually really impressive when you do the math.
If you’re using it for two systems, does that make it double the value?
