These Giant LEGO ‘Star Trek’ Borg Cubes Will Assimilate You
These massive LEGO Borg Cubes include thousands of pieces, intricate details, and hundreds of lights – resitance is futile.
The Borg Cube is one of, if not the, most fearsome warships used by the Borg Collective in Star Trek. These massive vessels, of which the Borg supposedly have millions, could single-handedly fight a whole fleet of Federation ships. Measuring roughly 3 kilometers ( 1.86 miles if you use a proper unit, sorry Jean-Luc) a side. Each cube is packed with weapons and defensive systems, as well as hordes of Borg drones, making them an iconic and terrifying enemy.
On at least two occasions, Borg Cubes have threatened Earth itself. The first time was following the Battle of Wolf 359, in which a Cube destroyed 39 of 40 Federation vessels. This Cube was stopped near Earth. Once again during the events of Star Trek: First Contact a Cube threated Earth but was barely stopped. In this instance, the Cube’s proved that even when destroyed, they had backup systems that made them threats.
LEGO Borg Cube – LED Edition
Due to their iconic nature, Borg Cubes are pretty popular among the fans. More than one has attempted to bring a Cube to life in LEGO, and today we are going to look at a couple of these really cool builds (would LEGO appeal to the Borg? Are we all just LEGO pieces to be assimilated into a great build?). The first of these builds is made by legodm.
You can check out Legodm here; they are a very talented builder with a number of cool builds. The Cube itself measures an appropriate cubic yard and is made of more than 25,000 pieces. It also includes around 300 LED lights that light it up. This is an imposing and detailed build that looks stunning.

The detailed work on this Cube is really something else. Each side looks both uniform and unique, and very true to the Cube. I also love that it comes with a mini Borg Sphere and a small USS Defiant. This is clearly the Cube from First Contact, and I love that a few details clearly tell us that. Outside of that, this is a really cool spaceship to look at.
Check out a full video of the build below. You can also watch a timelapse of the cube being built here.
LEGO Borg Cube – Black Edition
Our second Cube was built by Reddit user TheNerdyOne, who also goes by kyebircks. You can find them here. At 9,000 pieces and around 16 inches a side, its a smaller build but still impressive. I like builds like this one as they feel like one you might have yourself on the shelf or something like that. The builder has actually labeled it as a “UCS Borg Cube.” this makes sense, itsT9,000 pieces is in line with the larger UCS sets so, I think they nailed what they were going for.
While mostly black, this build still packs in a ton of detail and looks amazing. It doesn’t use any lights, but the neon green studs do a great job of simulating lights and giving it an authentic Borg Cube look. This build also comes with a small to scale Enterprise-E, which is a nice touch. Even better is the fact that it not only has a Borg Sphere, but it fits into the side of the Cube ready to launch. I’d say more about the build… but it is a Cube. It looks very cool, but is pretty cube-y.

If you do get a Cube of your own, remember to treat your models (and display cases) better than Picard does!

Learn all about the ships of the Star Trek universe with the Star Trek Shipyards series. Each book contains technical overviews and operational histories of each ship. They’re illustrated with CG artwork, including original VFX models. The books also feature listings of each ship’s debut appearance and when they appeared the shows/movies. A great addition to any Trekkie’s library.
