Warhammer 40K: Ultramarine ‘Fan Protest’ For More Blue Marines
Games Workshop is either self-aware or is here for some top tier trolling with the latest “breaking news” from Warhammer Community.
Forget Black Friday Deal, Games Workshop wants to go into the Blue. Again. With more Ultramarine releases. While no new miniatures are shown I can’t help but wonder about this one.

Ultra Mad Merch Drop
Part of me thinks this is just for hyping up the latest merch drop from their own merch store. Which, yeah, checks out:
At the same time this does feel like GW is “poking the bear” a bit. Even in our own comments section on other articles folks have been showing their feeling about all the Ultramarine releases. I’m pretty sure GW has been getting even more of these types of comments in other ways, too. While the Ultramarine Fans are going to be eating good this Holiday season everyone else is turning green from all this blue.
Hidden Teaser?
While the video itself is clearly staged by GW it’s also meta. They know there’s a lot of fans that are unhappy about all the Ultramarine stuff so they release a video of “fans” complaining about not having enough Ultramarines releases. I get it. This is BOTH GW being self-aware and also being troll-ish about it (but in a mostly fun and not mean way). Still, there was a line about “we don’t even have our own codex” in that video that made my ears perk up.
For the most part, that is technically true. The Space Marines Codex is technically a “generic” codex, right? Sure, it’s got all the Ultramarines units and characters in there. But that’s because the Ultramarines are the default option for Space Marines. They are quite literally the posterboys for 40k. But the Ultramarines don’t have an Ultramarine-only codex. And they do have some Ultramarine only units like the Victrix Honour Guard. Maybe we’ll see the Tyrannic War Vets return if they get a new Codex Supplement.
It does feel like GW is planning something major with the Ultramarines with the whole 500 worlds event going on. I just wonder about the long term implications of this storyline. Also, I’m curious to see if GW will actually take note of the Ultramarine backlash and do something about it.
Anyhow, I’m not an Ultramarine player so when they get new characters I’m not exactly hyped about it either. To me, they are just the standard Marine option and get all the “default” toys. And they do get a LOT of toys…
Self-aware parody or top tier trolling? The answer is BOTH.
