Warhammer: The Old World – Chaos Marauders Army Reinforcement Is a Steal
The pricing for the Old World Chaos Marauders Army Reinforcement box is out. This one is going to fly off shelves.
We do a lot of pricing breakdowns for Warhammer Products. That’s because I like to run the numbers and see what sets are really good deals vs the typical MSRP. That said, today I wanted to try a different angle. Mostly because these Chaos Marauders aren’t out yet. But also because the price of the boxed set is crazy good for players. Furthermore, there’s some direct comparisons we can make to other GW products. So, with that in mind, let’s talk about the Chaos Marauders Army Reinforcement box.
Chaos Marauders Army Reinforcements Box
The pricing that’s leaked online is saying this box will cost $180 MSRP. So just starting off, that’s already a crazy good deal for this many miniatures. But this gets even better when you put it in perspective. You see the Chaos Marauders basically have a 1:1 comparison with the Age of Sigmar Darkoath army. In fact, as most of our readers will know, the Darkoath army basically replaced the old Marauders in AoS. But do you remember when the Darkoath Army box came out?
This box came out with a launch price of $200. And while it did have a couple characters included the total model count was actually less than the upcoming Chaos Marauder box. Sure, you could blame that on the character pricing difference. At the same time, this is also a trend comparing the pricing of the Darkoath units to their Old World counter-parts. For example let’s say we wanted to get two units of the Darkoath Calvary — the Darkoath Fellriders go for $65 for 5. So for two of those we’re already looking at $130.
What about the 40 Chaos Marauders on foot? Well, Darkoath Marauders are $60 for 10. So for 4 of those boxes we’re looking at $240!
So, if this Chaos Marauders box was Darkoath instead, we’d be at an individual MSRP of $370! For the price point of $180 you’re looking a comparative savings of $190 — that’s over 50% off. Even if you’re buying round bases from GW to convert them over, you’re still saving a bucket of money.
Chaos Marauders Over Darkoath?
I’m not even going to get into the fact these Chaos Marauders are brand new sculpts which replace the even older versions. And, if I’m being honest, I like the look of the new Chaos Marauders over the exposed flesh of the Darkoath miniatures. You could claim that the Darkoath are just fighting in warmer climates I suppose…
Anyhow, I think it’s clear that one of the major advantages the Old World has over AoS is the pricing on their miniatures. I’m not going to pretend to understand how GW comes up with their price points. I’ve given up on that a long time ago. While I don’t understand it, I can still see the prices and do basic math though. One of these deals is vastly better than the other.
At least the Darkoath Raiders Spearhead is $150…
Anyone else thinking of getting the new Chaos Marauders box all of a sudden?
