Age Of Sigmar: Spearhead Doubles Wacky Team-up Combos

Spearhead Doubles is a new mode from Games Workshop for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar and these team-up combos are just a tad wacky.

I’ve been reading the Spearhead Double rules from yesterday and honestly this seems like a really fun format. It’s a nice way to make your Spearhead games feel larger and engage with more friends at once. That said I was also looking over the Spearhead armies and thinking “wait some of these combos are kind of ridiculous.” But I also think that’s kind of the point.

Again, I’m not seeing any restrictions what Spearhead armies can be paired. So here’s a few that I thought of that might not be game breaking, but they do make for some interesting mental gymnastics for my head canon.

Daughters of Khaine and Hedonites of Slaanesh

Really the Hedonites paired with ANY of the Aelf factions make my head canon alarm go haywire. But this pairing in particular is just so odd because it almost works. ALMOST. Even the GW default colors are close enough that they could be a unified army based on colors. Aesthetically, they aren’t that close on up close inspection. But they DO have a few similarities.

Now, would these two factions ever actually sit down and have an alliance? I mean…the Mortal Realms make for some really strange bedfellows sometimes. Still, this is one pairing that I don’t think the “lore” part of my brain could ever square that circle.

Skaven And Sons of Behemat

This pairing is odd because you’ve got the notoriosly cheap Skaven paired with the three model Sons of Behemat Spearhead. What’s funny to me is that the Skaven in the Spearhead aren’t even the highest model count option.

What’s funny to me is that I think this pairing might actually be good. These two Spearheads cover for the weakness of the other. That said it does tickle my feathers to see the tiny ratmen teaming up with the large Gargants.

Seraphon and Slaves to Darkness

Again, this is one of those team-ups that in the lore they are diametrically opposed. The Seraphon HATE chaos. There were basically created to combat it. So seeing them team up with some of most devoted to Chaos is just seems wrong. However, on the tabletop, I think both of these Spearheads are pretty rock solid. Not a bad pairing…but still kind of lore-breaking.

Ossiarch Bonereapers And Idoneth Deepkin

The final pairing I wanted to mention was one that combined a “Death” faction with “life” — initially I was thinking Nighthaunt and Sylvaneth but I think this pairing is even stranger. Why? Because The Ossiarch Bonereapers might use the bones of the fallen to replenish their ranks but they also use the souls. You know who ELSE raids for souls? Yeah…the Deepkin. I feel like these two armies could actually work together. Maybe out of a martial pride or mutual respect…at least until it’s time to divvy up the souls.

There’s a lot more really weird and wacky Spearhead army pairings. Which ones do you think fall on the “wacky” side of things.
