Games Workshop gives us a glimpse in the life of a family in the Imperium. It’s a peek behind the war machine.

Things in the 40k universe are both grim and dark. That’s why I always appreciate a look at the day-to-day life of it’s citizens. This short video not only has another in universe song to listen to but we’re also getting a look at a family surviving in the Grimdark setting.

From the Video description:

An official new Warhammer animated vignette.

Get a glimpse into the grim realities of everyday life in the Imperium, featuring a haunting new in-universe song from the 41st Millennium.

Ave Imperator

Now, this isn’t exactly a happy-go-lucky look at the setting. But it does feel very “real” in terms of what every day life must be like for the regular folks who live in the 40k universe. Especially in the Hive. And, to be honest, this is probably a family that’s a bit better off than what we’re typically used to seeing from a Hive like Necromunda. That’s mostly because Necromunda has a focus on the Gangs at the bottom and not families.

Here’s what WarCom has to say:

“This new free animated vignette follows a family in a hive somewhere in the Ultima Segmentum. We get a glimpse into the drudgery of everyday Imperial life – toiling away in manufactorums or posted to the planet’s defences. A pretty dull life, right up until Mankind’s enemies inevitably invade, at which point you pray to the Emperor to send deliverance.”

I was watching the video (a few times actually) to see if there were some ways to tell they are a family. Other than the “wrist idents” I couldn’t really see any other connective strings. Really it was just the “008” that you can barely make out on them that tied them all together. It would have been nice for those to be a bit more clear — but hey it’s both “grim and dark” not “clear and bright.”

And again, the fact that they have wrist idents in the first place is a nice touch to show a bit more about the world they live in. Anyhow, if you want to download that somewhat haunting and sober song you can download that here. Additionally, there’s a few digital wallpapers you can also snag from GW. Check out the WarCom article for those downloads.

This is really what they fight for.
