Thanks Grotmas Calendar. That’s a nice update for the Harlequins. I was starting to think everyone had forgotten about them.

Remember when the Harlequins had a codex? It’s a been a while. So it’s nice that Games Workshop decided throw them a bone with a new Harlequin focused detachment. Grotmas gifts for all!

“This Detachment focuses on Harlequins specifically, ideal for anyone who wants to run either a pure Harlequin army or one that heavily focuses on these units. All of your Harlequin mounted and vehicle units gain Sustained Hits 1, your Harlequin infantry units gain Sustained Hits 1 in the turn they disembark. On top of this Harlequin Troupe go to OC 2 and become Battleline, and the restriction for most Aeldari armies that limit Harlequin characters to not be duplicated is removed.”

The Serpent’s Blood Harlequin Detachment

At it’s core, this is really for fans of Harlequins out there. The Serpent’s Blood Detachment gives Troupe Units Battleline, an OC of 2, and you can include up to three Death Jesters, Shadowseers, and Troupe Masters as part of this detachment. Really, that means you could field an entire Harlequin army again. Or at least a whole bunch of them to support a main force.

Furthermore, the enhancements really center around what characters you want to bring and gives them some utility. But really it’s the stratagems that highlight the Harlequin play style. High mobility and lethality all mixed into “hard to pin down” units.

Weaving Stride is a perfect example of that. Did you think those Harlequins were going to be there after you moved closer to them? How about “no” as they skitter off to make a charge even more unlikely.

The Aeldari have always required a bit of finesse to really maximize their value. The Harlequins take that to a whole new level. Don’t underestimate them! They may look like a bunch of clowns but if you take them too lightly, you’ll be the one with pie on your face.

What’s next? A new Chaos Daemons Detachment?
