Warhammer 40K: Grotmas Day 5 – ‘Grizzled Company’ Detachment For Astra Militarum Released
The Astra Militarum have a new Detachment to try out. Say hello to the Grizzled Company in Warhammer 40,000!
The Games Workshop Grotmas Calendar is chugging along and on Day 5 we’ve got some new rules to check out. This time the Astra Militarum’s veterans are given a chance to shine. This new detachment has a focus on combat veterans who’ve seen plenty of action — and lived to tell about it. You don’t want to tangle with the men and women of the Grizzled Company!
“This Detachment focuses on forces of the Astra Militarum that have been deployed in the thick of the fighting for extended periods of time, becoming hardened Veterans who have survived through valour and discipline. Their experienced officers can issue additional Orders, and Astra Militarum units under the effect of an Order gain the ability to re-roll 1s To Hit against all targets or re-roll 1s To Hit and Wound against targets on objectives.”

Grizzled Company Rules
Kicking things off their Detachment Rule is Ruthless Discipline. Right off the bat it allows for Officer Units to have one additional order. On top of that, if a unit is under the effect of an Order they get to re-roll hits of 1. And if the target is in range of an objective they also get to re-roll wounds of 1. Paired with the right Order this can make the AM units extra reliable and deadly.
Enhancement-wise, they’ve got four more to choose from which you can see above. I like the Laud Hailer for the extra Order range. That seems appropriate for this Detachment to me. It might not be “the best” one but it’s pretty universally useful.
Strategem-wise this new Detachment brings a mix of damage buffs and other utility. Ideally, this should make the Detachment able to deal with just about anything the enemy can bring to the tabletop. Then again, I’ve always found that if the AM brings overwhelming firepower and delivers on target there’s not a lot of the enemy left to deal with. Regardless, these stratagems should be pretty useful.
There’s more rules coming from the Grotmas Calendar. Stay tuned…
